Control of Axial Chirality through NiH-Catalyzed Atroposelective Hydrofunctionalization of Alkynes

Feng-Tao Sheng et al.

Summary: Catalytic asymmetric hydrofunctionalization of alkenes is a well-established method for constructing complex C(sp3)-enriched molecules with central chirality. However, the use of this method for producing valuable multisubstituted alkenes with axial chirality from abundant alkyne substrates remains largely unexplored. In this study, a general procedure for catalytic asymmetric hydrofunctionalization of alkynes using abundant Ni(II) salts and a structurally simple chiral PyrOx ligand was developed. The reaction exhibited high efficiency, complete Z-selectivity, and excellent enantioselectivity, leading to the synthesis of diverse atropisomeric chiral styrenes.

Weak-Coordination in C-H Bond Functionalizations Catalyzed by 3d Metals

Rajib Mandal et al.

Summary: Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bond functionalizations have had a significant impact on organic synthesis. The use of low-abundance 4d and 5d metals is in high demand, but it is important to explore methods based on more readily available 3d metals. Weakly coordinating directing groups allow for selective activation of C-H bonds without the need for strongly coordinating directing groups.

Asymmetric α-Hydroxylation of α-Aryl-δ-lactams with Molecular Oxygen under Phase-Transfer Conditions

Tomoaki Inukai et al.

Summary: An asymmetric synthesis of alpha-aryl-alpha-hydroxy-delta-lactams via phase-transfer-catalyzed hydroxylation with molecular oxygen is described. High yields and high enantioselectivities were achieved using 2,2-diarylvinyl group as an achiral auxiliary, facilitating access to alpha-aryl-alpha-hydroxy-delta-lactam derivatives containing a chiral quaternary center.

Atom-Economical Cross-Coupling of Internal and Terminal Alkynes to Access 1,3-Enynes

Mingyu Liu et al.

Summary: This method presents a selective and catalytic approach for synthesizing 1,3-enynes without the need for prefunctionalized building blocks, allowing for highly regio- and stereoselective formation of the target products. It is versatile, scalable, and can operate effectively with as low as 0.5 mol % catalyst loading. Preliminary mechanistic experiments support a redox-neutral Pd(II) catalytic cycle.

Ni/AntPohs-Catalyzed Stereoselective Asymmetric Intramolecular Reductive Coupling of N-1,6-Alkynones

Wanjun Chen et al.

Summary: A nickel-catalyzed stereoselective asymmetric intramolecular reductive coupling of N-1,6-alkynones was reported, achieving efficient synthesis of versatile functionalized chiral pyrrolidines with high yields, excellent stereoselectivity, and enantioselectivity. The developed reaction is applicable to a broad substrate scope and can be scaled up to gram scale without loss of enantioselectivity. The study also investigated ligand effects and reaction mechanism, suggesting wider applications in organic synthesis and chemical biology, and potential for further explorations in new research fields.
