New insights of simultaneous partial nitritation, anammox and denitrification (SNAD) system to Zn(II) exposure: Focus on affecting the regulation of quorum sensing on extracellular electron transfer and microbial metabolism

Summary: This study explored the toxicity responses mechanism of the SNAD system to Zn(II) exposure. It was found that Zn(II) accumulated in cells and induced oxidative stress, leading to microbial structure destruction. Zn(II) affected electron transfer and organic matter and nitrogen metabolism, while also disturbing the regulation of extracellular electron transfer and microbial metabolism through disrupting quorum sensing.

Acceleration mechanism of bioavailable Fe(III) on Te(IV) bioreduction of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1: Promotion of electron generation, electron transfer and energy level

Summary: The addition of Fe(III) increased the bioreduction rate of Te(IV) and enhanced NADH production, cytochrome c levels, and extracellular polymeric substances secretion while reducing cell membrane permeability, subsequently reducing the toxicity of Te(IV) to cells. Additionally, Fe(III) also facilitated ATP production, providing energy for the metabolic process of Te(IV) bioreduction and playing a crucial role in cell activity. Zeta potential and FT-IR spectra indicated that the stability of TeNPs was improved by the presence of EPS, offering a promising strategy for enhancing the stability of TeNPs.
