Phenolic profiles and bioactivities of different milling fractions of rice bran from black

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of phytochemicals in black rice bran fractions and found that the content of phenolics, flavonoids, and anthocyanins decreased from the outermost layer to the innermost layer. The antioxidant activity was highest in the outermost layer. These findings provide guidance for the processing and utilization of black rice bran.

Discovery of an ene-reductase for initiating flavone and flavonol catabolism in gut bacteria

Gaohua Yang et al.

Summary: This study identified an ene-reductase, FLR, from the gut bacterium Flavonifractor plautii ATCC 49531 that catalyses the hydrogenation of flavones and flavonols, shedding light on microbial metabolism of flavonoids in the human gut. The crystal structure analysis provided insights into the distinct catalytic property of FLR, which represents a new class of ene-reductases. Genetic and biochemical analyses highlighted the significance of FLR in the gut microbial consumption of dietary and medicinal flavonoids, offering potential implications for personalized nutrition and medicine.

Dietary Fiber Modulates the Fermentation Patterns of Cyanidin-3-O-Glucoside in a Fiber-Type Dependent Manner

Zixin Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that different types of dietary fibers can influence the fermentation patterns of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), altering the proportions of metabolites, promoting the generation of short-chain fatty acids, increasing the relative abundance of probiotics lactobacillus and bifidobacterium, and thereby contributing to the maintenance of colonic health.
