Nanosecond laser preheating effect on ablation morphology and plasma emission in collinear dual-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Na Li et al.

Summary: This study designs and uses the focus-offset collinear dual-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to investigate laser ablation and spectral intensity in an aluminum alloy sample. The laser crater morphologies and ablation volumes were measured. It is observed that the ablation efficiency on a nanosecond laser-heated sample is dependent on the inter-pulse time delay, which is similar to the trend of spectral intensity versus inter-pulse time delay in the delay time less than 3 mu s. The preheating effect of nanosecond pulse laser on subsequent laser ablation and signal enhancement is discussed based on the observation, which contributes to understanding the ablation and signal enhancement mechanism in standard collinear DP-LIBS technique.

Spectral enhancement mechanism and analysis of defocused collinear DP-LIBS technology

Ruizhao Yang et al.

Summary: LIBS is a modern analytical technique widely used in qualitative and quantitative determination of various samples. This paper studied the differences in plasma spectral enhancement mechanisms of two typical LIBS technologies, and presents experimental validation of two spectral enhancement solutions. Proper configuration of laser inter-pulse delay time is crucial in achieving high spectral intensity and good signal-to-noise ratio in different applications.

Sensitive alloy elemental analysis under minimal sample ablation with target-enhanced orthogonal double-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy using a dielectric target

Yinhua Jiang et al.

Summary: The target-enhanced orthogonal double-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (TEODP-LIBS) technique significantly enhances the optical emission intensity of sample elements for sensitive elemental analysis of alloy samples. By selecting a dielectric target material, spectral interference can be reduced and detection limits can be improved.
