The synergistic effect of potassium ions and nitrogen defects on carbon nitride for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Ziyun You et al.

Summary: Ion doping is an effective method to enhance the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4. Potassium ions and nitrogen defects were successfully introduced into g-C3N4 by high temperature calcination to promote charge transfer. The hydrogen production rate of the modified g-C3N4 reached 1722.4 mmol·g(-1)·h(-1), which is 8 times higher than that of pristine g-C3N4. The enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is attributed to improved light adsorption, more delocalized HOMO-LUMO, and stronger interlayer interactions.

This self-powered sensing system exhibited enhanced photocurrent and specific response to TOB due to the surface plasmon resonance effect and unique hollow tubular structure of PT-C3N4/Bi/BiVO4. The aptasensor showed a wide linearity to TOB in the range of 0.01-50 ng mL-1 with a low detection limit of 4.27 pg mL-1 under optimized conditions. it also demonstrated satisfactory photoelectrochemical performance, selectivity, and stability. Moreover, the aptasensor was successfully applied for TOB detection in river water and milk samples.

Preparation of carbon nitride nanotubes with P-doping and their photocatalytic properties for hydrogen evolution

Dawoon Jang et al.

Summary: In this work, one-dimensional P-doped carbon nitride nanotubes have been successfully synthesized using supramolecular self-assembly. These nanotubes exhibit great potential as an eco-friendly, visible-light-active photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction. The addition of an ionic liquid improves the uniformity of the nanotubes. Thorough structural and photophysical characterizations reveal that the nanotubes possess larger surface areas, more amine bridges, better crystallinity, and higher visible-light-absorption ability, which contribute to their enhanced photocatalytic performance.

Engineering surface bromination in carbon nitride for efficient CO2 photoconversion to CH4

Pengcheng Yan et al.

Summary: The direct conversion of CO2 into reusable CH4 fuel by solar energy can effectively solve the problems of energy crisis and carbon emissions. However, the challenge of photocatalytic CO2 reduction to produce CH4 is still low conversion efficiency and poor selectivity. This research demonstrates the fabrication of surface brominated carbon nitride (CNBr) as a stable and efficient photocatalyst for CO2 reduction to produce CH4, with a high rate (16.68 lmol h-1 g-1) and selectivity (70.27%). The incorporation of bromine atoms in CNBr enhances local charge separation, narrows the bandgap, and deepens the conduction band, enabling enriched CO2 adsorption and subsequent CH4 formation through hydrogenation.

Z-scheme Bi2S3-carbon nitride heterojunction photoanode activated efficient photoelectrochemical aptasensing of oxytetracycline and insights into the mechanism

Hang Zhang et al.

Summary: A photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor based on a novel Z-scheme heterojunction of bismuth sulfide-carbon nitride (Bi2S3-C3N4) was developed for sensitive and selective detection of oxytetracycline (OTC). The photocurrent intensity of the constructed Bi2S3-C3N4 heterojunction was significantly higher than that of pure Bi2S3, due to the effective separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs by the Z-scheme route. The increased photocurrent in the presence of OTC was attributed to the oxidation by the generated holes, as confirmed by electron spin resonance technique.
