Multispectrally Constrained MIMO Radar Beampattern Design via Sequential Convex Approximation

Xianxiang Yu et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the design of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar beampattern to coexist with multiple communication systems. It proposes a waveform optimization model and a sequential convex approximation (SCA) procedure to minimize the sidelobe level (ISL) while considering various constraints and spectral requirements. A fast iterative algorithm based on the alternating-direction-method-of-multipliers framework is introduced to speed up convergence. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm in terms of computational complexity, beampattern performance, and spectral compatibility.

Cramer-Rao Bound Optimization for Joint Radar-Communication Beamforming

Fan Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a MIMO beamforming design for joint radar sensing and multi-user communications. By minimizing the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) of radar sensing while guaranteeing a pre-defined SINR level for each communication user, the target estimation performance is improved. Closed form optimal solutions are derived for both point and extended targets in the single-user scenario. For the multi-user scenario, both problems are relaxed into semidefinite programming, and the global optimum can be generally obtained.

Transmit Design for Joint MIMO Radar and Multiuser Communications With Transmit Covariance Constraint

Xiang Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, we propose a waveform design for a MIMO transmitter that serves as both a MIMO radar and a base station for multiuser communications. By introducing a covariance constraint, we formulate and solve the SINR balancing problem for multiuser transmit beamforming via convex optimization. Furthermore, we introduce dirty paper coding (DPC) to reduce interference and formulate the SINR balancing and sum rate maximization problem in the DPC regime. Both problems can be solved through convex optimizations and gradient projection algorithms.

MIMO Waveform Design for Dual Functions of Radar and Communication With Space-Time Coding

Wenhua Wu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a space-time coding scheme for transmit beamforming and communication information embedding in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system, aiming to solve the cross-interference problem. The transmit waveforms are optimized using shape approximation and integrated power approximation criteria, and direct constellation mapping (DCM) and phase-rotation constellation mapping (PRCM) methods are proposed for information symbol embedding. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can prevent missing information symbols and achieve better performance in bit-error rate (BER). Moreover, the scheme reduces the dependence of communication data rate on radar pulse repetition frequency (PRF).
