3D morphometric evaluation of the dental arches in children with cleft lip and palate submitted to different surgical techniques

Maiara Miyuki Matsui Falzoni et al.

Summary: The study compared dimensional alterations of dental arches in children with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate before and after different techniques of primary plastic surgeries. Results showed that cheiloplasty and one-stage palatoplasty resulted in smaller growth of maxilla compared to cheiloplasty and two-stage palatoplasty in terms of linear measurements (T-T' and I-CC') and total area of the dental arches.

Prospective cohort 3D study of dental arches in children with bilateral orofacial cleft: Assessment of volume and superimposition

Eloa Cristina Passucci Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the dental arches of patients with bilateral complete cleft lip and bilateral cleft lip and palate treated in a specialized hospital, showing a reduction in transversal and anteroposterior linear measurements in patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate. However, there was no significant decrease in area and volume, as indicated by the superimposition of dental arches.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of cleft width on immediate local surgical site complications following cleft lip repair and found that a cleft width exceeding 14 mm may be associated with a higher risk of early surgical site complications.

Palatal growth changes in newborns with unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate from birth until 12 months after early neonatal cheiloplasty using morphometric assessment

Lenka Kozejova Jaklova et al.

Summary: This study compared palatal growth changes in infants with UCLP and BCLP during the first year of life. The results showed intensive palatal growth in both directions, with no restrictions in any direction. The study highlights the formative effect of palatal growth on alveolar cleft closure, emphasizing the importance of geometric morphometry in improving surgical methods.
