Selective electrocatalytic hydrogenation of phenols over ternary Pt3RuSn alloy

Yan Du et al.

Summary: The electrocatalytic hydrogenation (ECH) of biomass feedstocks is a promising alternative for thermal upgrading bio-oil. Pt, Ru, Pt3Ru, Pt3Sn, Ru3Sn, and Pt3RuSn supported on carbon cloth (CC) were synthesized and evaluated for the ECH performance of phenol to cyclohexanol. The synergistic effect of bimetallic Pt and Ru, along with the addition of Sn, resulted in high catalytic activity of Pt3RuSn/CC with minimal cyclohexanone formation.

Highly Effective Rh/NaNbO3 Catalyst for the Selective Hydrogenation of Benzoic Acid to Cyclohexane Carboxylic Acid Under Mild Conditions

Yin Hu et al.

Summary: The Rh/NaNbO3 catalyst prepared by a solvothermal method combined with photo-deposition technique showed excellent performance and mild hydrogenation conditions for the selective hydrogenation of benzoic acid. The catalyst's superior hydrogenation performance was attributed to features such as abundant oxygen vacancies, in situ reduction of Rh species, and specific morphology and structure. The catalyst's deactivation after eleven hydrogenation recycles was found to be caused by carbon deposition and leaching of Rh species during the hydrogenation process. This work presents an attractive approach to designing highly efficient catalysts for the hydrogenation of benzoic acid with potential application value.

Highly selective electrocatalytic hydrogenation of benzoic acid over Pt/C catalyst supported on carbon fiber

Aiqun Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, electrocatalytic hydrogenation was used to convert benzoic acid into cyclohexanecarboxylic acid. Carbon fibers with different degrees of graphitization were used as the support for commercial platinum carbon electrode without external hydrogen. The results showed that the conversion of benzoic acid and the selectivity of cyclohexanecarboxylic acid reached 100% using carbon fiber paper (CFP)-supported Pt/C electrode at room temperature and 1 atm pressure in 0.05 M H2SO4 solution.
