Dimerization dynamics of carboxylic acids in helium nanodroplets

Andrew M. Ellis et al.

Summary: The dimerization of molecules in helium nanodroplets leads to the formation of higher energy structures compared to the global energy minimum. Kinetic trapping effects play an important role in the occurrence of high-energy structures away from minima.

Shell-Isolated Au Nanoparticles Functionalized with Rhodamine B Fluorophores in Helium Nanodroplets

Roman Messner et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles with a layered core@shell@shell structure consisting of three different materials are synthesized by sequential doping in cold helium droplets. The nanoparticles can be functionalized in situ with additional molecules, and the structure of the formed complexes can be studied by observing fluorescence spectra upon laser excitation of RB molecules. This approach can be used for the synthesis and investigation of various combinations of plasmonic metals, intermediate layers, and molecules.

An infrared spectroscopic study of trifluoromethoxybenzeneMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISmethanol complexes formed in superfluid helium nanodroplets

Tarun Kumar Roy et al.

Summary: The study investigated the intermolecular complex formation between trifluoromethoxybenzene and methanol using infrared spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. The results identified six different conformers of the complex, with three bound via hydrogen bonds and the other three via pi hydrogen bonds. Additionally, the effect of fluorination on the methyl unit of anisole molecules was compared by analyzing the IR spectrum of trifluoromethoxybenzene-methanol complex.

London dispersion dominating diamantane packing in helium nanodroplets

Jasna Alic et al.

Summary: The structures and interaction energies of diamantane clusters formed inside superfluid helium nanodroplets were analyzed using time-of-flight mass spectrometry, revealing the importance of intermolecular dispersion effect for condensation of matter. This study provides insight into the formation of assemblies of diamantane units at low pressures and near-zero Kelvin temperatures.

Metal clusters synthesized in helium droplets: structure and dynamics from experiment and theory

Wolfgang E. Ernst et al.

Summary: Metal clusters are of continuous interest for their potential in creating matter with unique properties useful for applications in photonics, catalysis, and electronics. By controlling the combination of specific elements in a nanoparticle, new materials can be developed. Research focuses on synthesis of tailored metal and metal oxide clusters, including core-shell designs, with a particular emphasis on thermal properties and alloy formation at the nanoscale. Both experimental and theoretical approaches are used for characterization and analysis.
