Novel electrogravimetric biosensors for the ultrasensitive detection of plasma matrix metalloproteinase-2 considered a potential tumor biomarker

Monika K. Nisiewicz et al.

Summary: In this study, novel gravimetric and voltammetric sensors were developed for ultrasensitive detection of active matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 in plasma. The sensors are cost-effective, require minimal reagents, and save time. They detect MMP-2 based on antigen-antibody recognition and cleavage of a specific peptide bond. The sensors showed high stability, a wide analytical range, and low detection limit. They demonstrated excellent efficiency in detecting active MMP-2 in real plasma samples, holding great promise for early cancer diagnosis.

Exosomes as a new frontier of cancer liquid biopsy

Dan Yu et al.

Summary: Liquid biopsy, a revolutionary strategy for cancer diagnosis and prognosis prediction, uses minimally invasive detection through biofluids such as blood, saliva, and urine. Exosomes, a subset of extracellular vesicles, play a crucial role in intercellular communication and are considered as potential biomarkers in liquid biopsy. However, the lack of high-quality separation and component analysis methods has limited the further clinical application of exosomes.

Rapid and quantitative detection of tear MMP-9 for dry eye patients using a novel silicon nanowire-based biosensor

Zicheng Lu et al.

Summary: Dry eye disease (DED) is a common chronic eye disease that requires fast and reliable tools for diagnosis and monitoring. This study developed a biosensor based on silicon nanowire-based field-effect transistor (SiNW FET) for the quantitative measurement of MMP-9 in human tears. The biosensor demonstrated high agreement with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and showed good diagnostic sensitivity and specificity in real-world clinical settings.

Summary: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening complication, particularly common in men over the age of 60. Circulating biomarkers, specifically MMP-9, are crucial for diagnosing AAA, with ELISA being the standard technique for detection. Introducing a potential bimolecular immobilization strategy can improve the efficiency of MMP-9 detection.
