Recent Progress in Antioxidant Active Substances from Marine Biota

Todorka Vladkova et al.

Summary: This review provides an update on the current status and new developments of marine-biota-derived antioxidants, including new sources, substances, and derivation methods. Natural substances with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties are of particular interest. Byproducts and wastes serve as valuable sources of antioxidants. Optimized non-conventional derivation methods are expected to enhance production and improve the quality of the derived substances.

Influence of the Structure of Alginate-Chitosan Materials on the Kinetics of Usnic Acid Release

N. A. Gorshkova et al.

Summary: Porous materials, cryogels and aerogels, were synthesized via freeze-drying and supercritical drying. The specific surface area of aerogels was found to be ten times higher than that of cryogels, due to their developed mesoporous structure. The obtained materials displayed polyelectrolyte nature, dimensional stability, and high water absorption, making them suitable for sorption-application therapy. Impregnation with usnic acid provided antimicrobial properties, with slow release over 5 hours.

Dynamic Viscosity of Binary Fluid Mixtures: A Review Focusing on Asymmetric Mixtures

Monika Thol et al.

Summary: The literature review examines experimental data on binary mixtures of methane and carbon dioxide with hydrocarbons up to n-hexadecane, and analyzes different methods for calculating viscosity values with increasing asymmetry of the mixture. It is found that both the viscosity model and the thermodynamic equation of state significantly influence the results, and shortcomings are identified in both experimental data and modeling approaches.
