Effect of hydrogen concentration distribution on flame acceleration and deflagration-to-detonation transition in staggered obstacle-laden channel

Xinyu Zhao et al.

Summary: The effects of different hydrogen-air distributions on flame acceleration and deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) processes in a channel with solid obstacles were explored. The results show that in the early stage of flame evolution, the flame accelerates faster when there are no obstacles on the side with high hydrogen concentration. The detonation initiation can be classified into two types: detonation induced by the interaction between the flame surface and the reflected shock wave, or detonation induced by the collision between the leading shock wave and the reflected shock wave.

Eulerian-Lagrangian modeling of deflagration to detonation transition in n-decane/oxygen/nitrogen mixtures

Summary: This research used numerical simulation to investigate the effects of fuel atomization, vaporization, and shock focusing on flame acceleration and DDT in the deflagration to detonation transition process. The results showed that the flame acceleration process can be divided into slow and fast deflagration stages, with initiation times primarily determined by fuel atomization and evaporation.

Intrinsic instability of different fuels spherically expanding flames: A review

Francis Oppong et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the experimental, theoretical, and numerical investigations on the intrinsic instability of different fuels premixed flames. Physicochemical parameters such as pressure and equivalence ratio have significant effects on instability. However, inconsistencies in the evaluation of certain parameters in the theoretical analysis cause differences between theoretical, numerical, and experimental results.

Local statistics of laminar expanding flames subjected to Darrieus-Landau instability

Zirui Liu et al.

Summary: This experimental study investigates the impact of local flamefront dynamics on the propagation and acceleration of cellularly unstable premixed expanding laminar flames. The results show that at lower Peclet numbers, the flame front is stable and smooth, leading to narrow pdfs of flow velocities, curvature, and strain rates. In contrast, at higher Peclet numbers, the flame becomes more wrinkled, resulting in wider pdfs with increased variation in local quantities.

Self-turbulization in cellularly unstable laminar flames

Summary: This study experimentally measured the flow characteristics of flame-generated 'turbulence' for expanding cellular laminar flames, analysing the energy spectra at different stages and indicating that the observed spectra are driven by the fractal topology of the cellularly unstable flamefront.
