Randomised controlled trial of a prognostic assessment and management pathway to reduce the length of hospital stay in normotensive patients with acute pulmonary embolism

David Jimenez et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the use of a prognostic assessment and management pathway was effective in reducing the length of hospital stay and costs for patients with acute pulmonary embolism, without significant impact on 30-day clinical outcomes.

Value-based assessment of implementing a Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT)

Rahul Annabathula et al.

Summary: PERTs, a new multidisciplinary approach to PE care, efficiently identify and risk stratify PE patients, leading to improved quality and reduced overall cost of care. Implementation of PERT resulted in a significant decrease in in-hospital mortality, hospital LOS, and total care costs between pre- and post-PERT eras. Further research is needed to validate these findings in larger cohorts.

Effect of a Multidisciplinary Pulmonary Embolism Response Team on Patient Mortality

Colin Wright et al.

Summary: This observational study demonstrated that the implementation of Multidisciplinary Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERT) was associated with a sustained reduction in 6-month mortality for high-risk pulmonary embolism patients. PERT implementation also resulted in a shorter length of stay for patients. The time from triage to PE diagnosis was found to be independently predictive of mortality.
