Synthesis of new anthracene-conjugated calix[4]arene as highly selective fluorescent chemosensor for determination of CN- ion

Serkan Sayin

Summary: A novel calix[4]arene derivative substituted with anthracene was synthesized and characterized for its ion binding properties. The derivative showed excellent selectivity for cyanide ions and exhibited a significant color change upon binding. The study also utilized fluorescence data and H-1-NMR techniques to calculate binding stoichiometry and elucidate the complex formation mechanism.

Colorimetric and fluorimetric chemosensor based on upper rim-functionalized calix[4]arene for selective detection of fluoride ion

Mohammad Nemati et al.

Summary: A new colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor based on calix[4]arene with sulfonamide-fluorenone subunits shows remarkable color change and fluorescence quenching in the presence of fluoride anion. The binding property with F- was studied using various spectroscopic techniques, and this design with functional group attached to upper rim of calix[4]arene platform offers a new approach for the development of F- chemosensor.

Shape-Persistent Oxa- and Aza-calix[4]arene Hybrid Molecular Cage and Naked Eye Sensing of Fluoride

Yong-Xue Li et al.

Summary: A novel molecular cage with a shape-persistent cavity wrapped by aromatic rings was successfully synthesized via efficient SNAr reactions. X-ray analysis confirmed the encapsulation of two THF molecules in the central cavity, enabling selective sensing of F- ions in apolar solvent with a visible color change. The addition of CH3OH could reverse the color back to its original state.

Calix[4]amido crown functionalized visible sensors for cyanide and iodide anions

Pragati R. Sharma et al.

Summary: This study focused on the design and development of calix[4] arene-amido-based ionophores to probe their anion sensing properties by varying structural stringency and steric hindrance. Among various anions investigated, iodide and cyanide were the most sensitive to the ionophores, displaying a visibly distinct color change. Various analytical techniques were used to prepare, purify, and characterize the ionophores, revealing strong interaction with CN- and I- through H-1 & I-127 NMR, fluorescence, and UV-vis spectroscopy.
