Dietary energy intake across the menstrual cycle: a narrative review

Michaela M. Rogan et al.

Summary: Females are often underrepresented in scientific literature, but there is an increasing awareness of the need for female-specific research. This review synthesizes the published literature on dietary energy intakes of naturally menstruating females in different phases of the menstrual cycle. It finds that energy intake appears to be lower in the follicular phase compared with the luteal phase, but there is a lack of high-quality research in this area, particularly for female athletes and individuals who engage in high levels of physical activity.

Uterine bleeding: how understanding endometrial physiology underpins menstrual health

Varsha Jain et al.

Summary: Abnormal uterine bleeding can adversely affect the physical and mental health of individuals who menstruate. This Review explores the causes and physiology of abnormal uterine bleeding. Menstruation is a normal physiological process, but one third of women globally experience abnormal uterine bleeding during their reproductive years. Imbalances in various stages of endometrial shedding can result in the abnormal endometrial phenotype of abnormal uterine bleeding. Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia are closely associated with abnormal uterine bleeding, but are often underestimated and under-recognized. The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics has established standardized terminology and classification system for abnormal uterine bleeding, facilitating future research, diagnosis, and clinical management. Emerging technologies are providing new insights into the biology of the endometrium in health and disease and presenting new diagnostic and management approaches.

Metacognition and emotion regulation as treatment targets in binge eating disorder: a network analysis study

Matteo Aloi et al.

Summary: This study found that impaired self-monitoring metacognition and difficulties in impulse control are central nodes in the psychopathological network of BED patients, while eating and affective features are less central. The stability coefficient of strength indicates the stability of the network, and if future studies replicate these results, metacognition and impulse control could be new targets for psychotherapeutic interventions in the treatment of BED.
