Automatic Measurement of Maximal Diameter of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm on Computed Tomography Angiography Using Artificial Intelligence

Fabien Lareyre et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate a new automatic method based on artificial intelligence for measuring the maximal diameter of abdominal aortic aneurysm. The results showed a correlation between the automatic method and manual segmentation, with a small absolute error. This method has the potential to assist clinicians in making more accurate measurements during the decision-making process.

A systematic review of anatomic predictors of abdominal aortic aneurysm remodeling after endovascular repair

Rianne E. van Rijswijk et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the evidence for anatomic predictors of positive and negative abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) sac remodeling after endovascular repair. The presence of neck thrombus, AAA thrombus, number of hostile neck parameters, total AAA volume, AAA flow-lumen volume, and aortic calcification were identified as important anatomic features that may play a role in AAA remodeling. However, strong and consistent evidence regarding the anatomic predictors of AAA sac remodeling after endovascular repair is still lacking.

Abdominal Aortic Screening Is a Priority for Health in Smoker Males: A Study on Central Italian Population

Emma Altobelli et al.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a significant public health issue. Abdominal aortic screening (AAS) is being recognized as a potential preventive measure in some European countries. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of AAA in a Central Italian population, as well as evaluate the cost-effectiveness of AAS programs. The results showed that male gender and smoking were important risk factors for AAA≥3 cm. AAA≥3 cm was also significantly associated with cardiac arrhythmia and ischemic heart disease. Additionally, the screening was found to reduce costs related to emergency interventions for AAA. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening prevention efforts.

Deep Learning to Automatically Segment and Analyze Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm from Computed Tomography Angiography

Francesca Brutti et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fully automatic pipeline for segmentation of intraluminal thrombus in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) from contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography (CTA) images, as well as subsequent analysis of AAA geometry. The pipeline utilizes a deep learning-based approach to localize and segment the thrombus, with the thrombus identified in the whole sub-sampled CTA and then segmented using multi-view U-Nets. The developed models show effective thrombus segmentation and high correlation between automatically extracted diameters and manually measured ones by experts.

Prediction model of isolated iliac and abdominal aneurysms

Ettore Lanzarone et al.

Summary: This study analyzed cardiovascular risk factors in patients undergoing screening for Isolated Iliac Aneurysm and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, and proposed a logistic regression model to identify patients at risk. The results showed that diabetes and dyslipidaemia were the most relevant factors for developing at least one aneurysm. The logistic regression model can predict the presence of IIA and AAA in 69.7% and 83.8% of cases, respectively, under k-fold cross-validation.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the use of NLP algorithm can accurately identify the presence or absence of AAA and detect the maximal abdominal aortic diameter in a large dataset of imaging study reports. The results showed that NLP had good consistency, precision, and sensitivity in identifying the presence or absence of AAA and the maximal aortic diameter.

A morphovolumetric analysis of aneurysm sac evolution after elective endovascular abdominal aortic repair

Marco Franchin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the morphovolumetric changes of AAA sac during follow-up after elective EVAR and analyze sac shrinkage-related variables. The results showed that both AAA diameter and volume decreased during follow-up. Diameter shrinkage was associated with preoperative diameter, and the presence of a persistent endoleak predicted the absence of volume shrinkage. ARM occurred only in cases where both diameter and volume shrinkage were absent.
