MSF-LRR: Multi-Similarity Information Fusion Through Low-Rank Representation to Predict Disease-Associated Microbes

Jin-Xing Liu et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a new prediction method, MSF-LRR, which uses Low-Rank Representation (LRR) to fuse multi-similarity information and predict disease-related microbes. By adding three classes of microbe and disease similarity, and utilizing LRR to obtain low-rank structural similarity information, the method improves prediction accuracy. Furthermore, it adaptively extracts the local low-rank structure of the data from a global perspective, making the prediction more effective. The AUC value of MSF-LRR is superior to existing algorithms under 5-fold cross-validation.

Efficient and Differentiable Low-Rank Matrix Completion With Back Propagation

Zhaoliang Chen et al.

Summary: The low-rank matrix completion has gained attention for its efficient recovery of matrices in various fields. However, optimizing the rank function directly is challenging due to its characteristics. To address this issue, the authors propose a block-wise model called differentiable low-rank learning (DLRL) framework, which avoids singular value decomposition and adopts a block-wise learning scheme. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework in terms of runtimes and learning performance compared to other state-of-the-art low-rank optimization methods.

Optimal Anticodes, MSRD Codes, and Generalized Weights in the Sum-Rank Metric

Eduardo Camps-Moreno et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the Anticode Bound for sum-rank metric codes, classifies optimal anticodes, defines generalized sum-rank weights, and studies their main properties. It proves that the generalized weights of an MSRD code are determined by its parameters. Additionally, the paper explains how generalized weights measure information leakage in multishot network coding in the Appendix.

Deep Bayesian Active Learning for Learning to Rank: A Case Study in Answer Selection

Qunbo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel deep active learning framework based on Deep Expected Loss Optimization (DELO) for the task of answer selection. The framework adopts a data acquisition function based on model uncertainty with Bayesian deep learning and expected loss optimization. By combining DELO and other data acquisition strategies, the performance of active learning is further improved.

Evaluating Top-N Recommendations Using Ranked Error Approach: An Empirical Analysis

Sofia Aftab et al.

Summary: Evaluation metrics are important in recommender systems for choosing appropriate modeling approaches, but they may fall short when evaluating recommendation lists that match users' top preferences. A new evaluation measure is proposed to address this challenge by incorporating rank order of prediction lists with an error-based metric, providing a powerful tool for selecting the best modeling approach for maximizing the quality of top-N recommendations. Extensive experiments show the usefulness, effectiveness, and feasibility of the new metric compared to existing ones.

Multilevel Graph-Based Decision Making in Big Scholarly Data: An Approach to Identify Expert Reviewer, Finding Quality Impact Factor, Ranking Journals and Researchers

Muhammad Mazhar Ullah Rathore et al.

Summary: Scholarly Big Data generated by digital libraries consists of conference papers, journal documents, books, and thesis, covering scholarly information from researcher's and publisher's perspectives. The relationships among Big Scholarly Data are crucial for solving researcher and journal concerns, with the graph being the best approach for efficient processing. Proposed mechanisms include selecting suitable reviewers, designing journal ranking based on modified page ranking algorithm, calculating researchers ranking, and processing big graphs using parallel processing mechanism over the real-time analysis approach.

Ranking of author assessment parameters using Logistic Regression

Muhammad Usman et al.

Summary: International scientific societies nominate researchers for awards based on qualitative judgments using subjective assessments. There is a lack of established criteria for evaluating the quality of work, leading to complex issues in determining the best parameter for mapping experts' qualitative evaluation. Various quantitative parameters have been proposed, but their effectiveness in award nominations remains unclear.

Enhanced Nonconvex Low-Rank Approximation of Tensor Multi-Modes for Tensor Completion

Haijin Zeng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel low-rank approximation model for tensor multi-modes, addressing the inadequacy of traditional methods in terms of global low rankness of underlying tensors and suboptimal solutions. By utilizing a block successive upper-bound minimization algorithm, the numerical scheme is proven to converge to coordinatewise minimizers, and significant recovery results are achieved on public multi-dimensional datasets.
