IRS-Assisted Physical Layer Security in MIMO-NOMA Networks

Yue Qi et al.

Summary: In this letter, the deployment of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is proposed to enhance physical layer security in NOMA. The secrecy sum-rate is maximized in the presence of eavesdropper by using IRS-assisted MIMO NOMA. The problem of secrecy sum-rate maximization is difficult to solve due to the discrete unit-modulus constraint and nonconvex property.

SECURE BEAMFORMING FOR IRS-ENHANCED NOMA NETWORKS

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Due to the increasing demand for higher spectrum efficiency and large-scale connectivity, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has become a highly competitive candidate for the upcoming sixth-generation (6G) systems. However, the unstable wireless propagation environment and potential wireless security risk hinder the applications of NOMA. Fortunately, the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) that can construct three-dimensional beamforming and reconfigure channels has emerged as an efficient technology to overcome the limitations of NOMA. In this article, an overview of NOMA is presented, along with its main shortcomings and security risks. The IRS technology is then introduced, highlighting its enhancement in NOMA networks. The article also addresses typical security threats in IRS-NOMA networks and proposes countermeasures based on joint transmit beamforming and IRS reflecting beamforming to combat external and internal eavesdropping.

IRS-Assisted Physical Layer Security in MIMO-NOMA Networks

Yue Qi et al.

Summary: In this letter, the authors propose a method for enhancing the physical layer security in NOMA by deploying intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). They reformulate the problem of maximizing the secrecy sum-rate of IRS-assisted MIMO NOMA into an equivalent parameterized optimization using rotation matrices and solve it using the particle swarm algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves performance close to the secrecy capacity of the channel and outperforms other methods in terms of complexity and achievable rates.

Impact of Outdated CSI on the Secure Communication in Untrusted In-Band Full-Duplex Relay Networks

Jin-Taek Lim et al.

Summary: This paper investigates how to counter the untrusted full-duplex relay nodes in relay networks by generating artificial noise at the destination node to maintain communication confidentiality. Numerical results suggest that the artificial noise power level should be carefully considered when the channel is severely outdated and residual self-interference is unavoidable.

Physical Layer Security of Intelligent Reflective Surface Aided NOMA Networks

Zhiqing Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physical layer security of the downlink in IRS-aided non-orthogonal multiple access networks. The results show that the number of IRS elements and the Nakagami-m fading parameters have an impact on the channel gain and secrecy outage probability, while they have a minimal effect on the secrecy diversity orders and high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) slopes.

Improving Physical Layer Security for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Aided NOMA 6G Networks

Zhe Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the physical layer security (PLS) for a RIS-aided NOMA 6G networks, where a RIS is deployed to assist two dead zone NOMA users and internal/external eavesdropping are considered. The proposed joint beamforming and power allocation scheme aims to improve system PLS, with superior performance shown in simulation results. Increasing the number of reflecting elements is found to bring more gain in secrecy performance than increasing the number of transmit antennas.

Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning-Based Buffer-Aided Relay Selection in IRS-Assisted Secure Cooperative Networks

Chong Huang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a buffer-aided relay selection scheme based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted secure cooperative network. The scheme aims to optimize IRS reflection coefficients to maximize average secrecy rate or throughput under delay constraints. The distributed reinforcement learning scheme outperforms benchmark schemes by iteratively learning from the environment through exploration of multiple agents.
