Numerical analysis of matrix swelling and its effect on microstructure of digital coal and its associated permeability during CO2-ECBM process based on X-ray CT data

Hui-Huang Fang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the matrix swelling effect in coal reservoirs and its impact on permeability, which is crucial for the effectiveness of the CO2-ECBM technology. Visualization reconstruction of coal reservoirs is conducted, followed by a discussion on the evolution of pore/fracture structures under different swelling contents. The influence of matrix phase on permeability is also examined, and the mechanism of swelling effect during the CO2-ECBM process is further explored.

Effects of microfractures on permeability in carbonate rocks based on digital core technology

Changfu Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a quantitative method for evaluating the impact of different microfracture parameters on carbonate rock permeability. The results show that increases in fracture length, aperture, and density linearly increase the permeability of carbonate rocks, and an exponential increase in permeability is observed when the fracture length penetrates the entire core. Additionally, microfractures have a more significant effect on high-permeability cores, and fractures have a greater impact on permeability compared to matrix permeability.

A new permeability model for argillaceous porous media under stress dependence with clay swelling

Gang Lei et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel analytical model for stress dependent permeability of argillaceous porous media considering clay swelling, which has been validated by experimental data and shown to perform well. The research finds that under a given effective stress, the normalized permeability decreases with increasing clay content or increasing clay complete expansion coefficient.
