Searching for physics beyond the Standard Model in an off-axis DUNE near detector

Summary: Next generation neutrino oscillation experiments like DUNE and T2HK have a rich physics program beyond oscillation measurements. The near detector facilities, especially the DUNE-PRISM design, play a special role in searching for weakly coupled dark sector particles. Moving some near detectors away from the beam axis improves the signal-to-background ratio, leading to a significant boost in sensitivity for dark matter particles interacting mainly with hadrons. Searches for heavy neutral leptons perform equally well in both configurations.

The PADME detector

Summary: The PADME apparatus at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati is used to search for the production of a dark photon in the process e(+)e(-) -> A'gamma. It consists of an active target, beam monitor system, spectrometer, dipole magnet, and electromagnetic calorimeter system, each with stringent requirements sometimes at the limit of present technology. Results of commissioning data taking from October 2018 to February 2019 will be illustrated.
