Molecular Signatures of Inflammatory Profile and B-Cell Function in Patients with Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome

Angela Park et al.

Summary: This study identified differential inflammatory cytokine levels in SFTS patients, with fatal cases showing expanded B cell populations and plasma cells as the viral reservoir. Altered B cell function was found to be associated with lethality in SFTSV infections.

A multicenter non-randomized, uncontrolled single arm trial for evaluation of the efficacy and the safety of the treatment with favipiravir for patients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome

Koichiro Suemori et al.

Summary: Favipiravir has shown effectiveness in treating patients with Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), with a lower 28-day mortality rate compared to previous studies. Although adverse events were observed in some patients, the drug was generally well tolerated and showed potential in improving clinical symptoms and reducing viral load in SFTS patients.

Clinical efficacy and safety evaluation of favipiravir in treating patients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome

Yang Yuan et al.

Summary: Favipiravir (FPV) treatment significantly reduced the case fatality rate in SFTS patients, but showed heterogeneity in different age groups, onset-to-admission intervals, initial viral loads, and therapy durations. FPV was beneficial for patients aged <= 70 years with specific conditions, but did not benefit those aged >70 years.

Platelet activation and aggregation response to dengue virus nonstructural protein 1 and domains

Nallely Garcia-Larragoiti et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the platelet response to stimulation with full-length DENV NS1 protein and its domains. Results showed that DENV NS1 protein and its domains promoted platelet recognition, activation, and aggregation, inducing the expression of P-selectin and alpha IIb beta 3 complex on platelet surfaces and stable platelet aggregation. Interestingly, only epinephrine could induce platelet aggregates formation after incubation with the protein domains of NS1.
