Multi-Stimuli Responsive Thiazolothiazole Viologen-Containing Poly(2-Isopropyl-2-Oxazoline) and Its Multi-Modal Thermochromism, Photochromism, Electrochromism, and Solvatofluorochromism Applications

Pramod V. V. Rathod et al.

Summary: Smart materials are in high demand due to their ability to respond to various stimuli. However, materials with stable stimuli-responsive properties are rare. Most current chromic materials are triggered by one or two external stimuli, limiting their functionality. To address this issue, researchers are focusing on developing a new generation of multi-stimulus responsive chromic materials.

Fluorinated phenothiazine derivatives: Photophysical properties, mechanochromism and thermochromism

Ziyu Wan et al.

Summary: Three fluorinated phenothiazine compounds were synthesized and characterized, displaying significant solvatochromism and aggregation-induced emission behaviors. It was found that P-1 and P-2 exhibited mechanochromic and thermochromic properties, along with polymorphic emission, while P-3 only displayed a red shift. These results suggested a new idea for preparing materials with both mechanochromic and thermochromic characteristics.

Design and synthesis of piezochromic materials exploring intermolecular charge transfer: chalconoids bound to the p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene macrocycle

Sanhita V. Patil et al.

Summary: Solid-state systems composed of chalconoid encapsulated within p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene (SCX6) scaffolds that exhibit mechanochromism and thermochromism have been developed. The introduction of a supramolecular host enables various applications in different areas, making them intriguing. Hydrogen bonding and pi center dot center dot center dot pi interactions play a significant role in the host-guest complexation, leading to mechanochromic switch.
