Ecological network analysis of industrial wastes metabolism based on input-output model for Jiangsu, China

Guiliang Tian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the relationships of industrial waste discharge among different sectors in Jiangsu Province by constructing an industrial waste metabolic input-output (IWMIO) model. The results indicate that indirect discharge of industrial waste is greater than direct discharge in the industrial waste metabolism system. The tertiary industry, chemical industry, smelting and pressing of metals, and production and supply of electricity and heat dominate the industrial waste metabolism system. Certain sectors, such as mining and washing of coal, manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, and smelting and pressing of metals, have mutualism and competition relationships with other sectors, indicating the significance of controlling waste discharge in these sectors for achieving emission reduction targets.
