Probing CO2 emission in Chengdu based on STRIPAT model and Tapio decoupling

Fengmei Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Chengdu from 2009-2020 and finds that the increase in energy consumption is the primary cause of CO2 emission growth. Population and energy intensity are the main influencing factors, and a 1% change in population and energy intensity will lead to 1.617128% and 1.355371% changes in CO2 emissions, respectively. The results show that Chengdu can achieve its carbon peak by 2025, and in the future, CO2 emissions and economic growth will be strongly decoupled, providing valuable references for other cities in their carbon peaking process.

Decoupling trend and emission reduction potential of CO2 emissions from China's petrochemical industry

Duanxiang Peng et al.

Summary: This paper examines the decoupling status and emission reduction potential of China's petrochemical industry from 1996 to 2019. The study reveals that CO2 emissions in the industry have experienced different stages, with the energy intensity effect being the most effective factor in restraining CO2 emissions and economic growth effect being the key factor in promoting CO2 emissions. There has been a weak decoupling relationship between CO2 emissions and economic development in the petrochemical industry, with strong decoupling occurring only in certain periods. Additionally, CO2 mitigation has occurred in various sub periods.

Study on the synergistic effect of air pollution prevention and carbon emission reduction in the context of dual carbon: Evidence from China?s transport sector

Qing-Hua Zeng et al.

Summary: This study constructs a synergistic reduction effect model of transportation tailpipe environmental negative externalities emissions based on the Kaya constant equation and the LMDI decomposition model, using inter-provincial panel data of China from 2005 to 2019. The study analyzes the synergistic impact and indirect drivers between air pollution and carbon emissions. The results show that the main drivers of the synergistic impact are energy efficiency and industrial structure. Significant synergistic emission reduction effects exist in eastern China, western China, medium-sized transportation markets, and less developed tourism regions. Furthermore, increasing environmental regulation can improve the synergistic reduction impact of air pollutants and carbon emissions from the transportation sector. This paper provides theoretical support for winning the battle of pollution prevention and control and achieving the dual carbon goal in the new era.

Assessment of the driving factors of CO2 mitigation costs of household biogas systems in China: A LMDI decomposition with cost analysis model

Weishi Zhang et al.

Summary: China has been focusing on biogas for reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but research shows a gap between actual and theoretical CO2 reduction costs, influenced by cost effect and reduction effect. Factors such as household labor, accessibility to energy resources, acceptance of biogas technology, and subsidies play crucial roles in narrowing the gap.

A Race Between Economic Growth and Carbon Emissions: How Will the CO2 Emission Reach the Peak in Transportation Industry?

Ya Wu et al.

Summary: This paper predicts and analyzes the time, path, and quality of carbon peaking in China's transportation industry using the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) model and the Tapio decoupling model. The research findings indicate that the transportation industry in China and its regions will not achieve the international commitment of peak carbon emissions by 2030 under the benchmark scenario. However, under the radical scenario, the peak time for China's transportation industry can be reached earlier with lower peak value, and the quality of carbon emissions will be better, especially in the eastern region.

Towards carbon neutrality: The role of different paths of technological progress in mitigating China's CO2 emissions

Boqiang Lin et al.

Summary: The study shows that different paths of technological progress in different regions of China have varying impacts on CO2 emissions. Domestic innovation can decrease CO2 emissions to a certain extent, but may increase emissions in high-emission regions. Foreign technology imports cannot reduce CO2 emissions in high-emission regions, but can achieve emission reduction in low-emission regions.

Weigong Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the decoupling state and drivers of the Chinese mining industry and finds an inverted U-shaped relationship between CO2 emissions and economic growth. The economic output effect is the key factor in promoting CO2 emissions and inhibiting decoupling, while the energy intensity effect contributes to suppressing CO2 emissions and promoting decoupling. The energy structure effect shows potential. Factors vary in their role across different subsectors.

Application of grey model in influencing factors analysis and trend prediction of carbon emission in Shanxi Province

Meng Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on carbon emissions in Shanxi Province, China. By using the emission factor method and grey correlation model, the influencing factors of carbon emissions are identified. An improved grey multi-variable convolution integral model (AGMC(1,N)) is then employed to accurately predict carbon emissions. The results demonstrate that the AGMC(1,N) model is effective in predicting carbon emissions. Additionally, the study reveals that carbon emissions in Shanxi Province will increase with the growth rate of per capita GDP, energy consumption, resident population, and expenditure on R&D projects, but will gradually decrease with the increase of urbanization level. This study provides valuable insights for carbon emission reduction in Shanxi Province and suggests that the AGMC(1,N) model can be applied to carbon emission prediction in other provinces or fields.
