Green growth and environmental sustainability in China: the role of environmental taxes

Lei Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of environmental-related taxes on green growth and CO2 emissions in China. The short-term results show that an increase in environmental taxes and policy strictness is negatively related to CO2 emissions but positively related to green growth. In the long run, however, the impact of environmental taxes on CO2 emissions becomes significantly negative while insignificant for green growth. On the other hand, the strictness of environmental policies has a significantly negative impact on CO2 emissions and a significantly positive impact on green growth.

Transportation taxes and CO2 emissions nexus in BCIST economies: Implication for environmental sustainability

Muhammad Tayyab Sohail et al.

Summary: This study aims to examine the impact of transportation taxes on CO2 emissions in a comparative setting for BCIST economies from 1991 to 2019. The findings reveal that transportation taxes are a vital asymmetric determinant of CO2 emissions. An increase in transportation taxes reduces CO2 emissions in China, India, South Africa, and Turkey, while a decrease in transportation taxes intensifies carbon emissions in Brazil, China, and India in the long term. Moreover, more transportation taxes limit CO2 emissions in South Africa and China in the short run. The study's findings have important implications for economic policies and future research directions.

How do environmental regulations affect carbon emission and energy efficiency patterns? A provincial-level analysis of Chinese energy-intensive industries

Thanh Quang Ngo

Summary: This study measures the impact of environmental regulation on energy production in China through data analysis. It reveals a significantly modest total average energy efficiency index for energy-intensive industries, and a distinct U-shaped relationship between China's energy efficiency index and environmental regulations. The increase in market-based environmental regulations and command and control environmental regulations leads to a gradual improvement in the impact of environmental regulation on the total factor energy efficiency index.

How environmental taxes and carbon emissions are related in the G7 economies?

Buhari Dogan et al.

Summary: The paper explores the impact of an environmental tax on carbon emissions for the G7 nations from 1994 to 2014, as well as the importance of factors such as energy use, economic complexity, natural resources rent, and economic growth in driving emissions. The study confirms the Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis for the G7 countries and examines the marginal effects of an environmental tax on traditional energy consumption, natural resources rent, and renewable energy consumption. The findings suggest that environmental taxes effectively reduce emissions for the G7 countries, and the marginal effects of the tax vary with the level of taxation.

Does an environmental policy bring to green innovation in renewable energy?

Dan Zhang et al.

Summary: This research examines the impact of environmental policy stringency on green innovation in renewable energy technology and finds that a stringent environmental policy does encourage green innovation, especially in OECD and high-income countries. The study also reveals that a stringent environmental policy contributes to green innovation in geothermal energy, hydro energy, and marine energy, but not in wind energy and solar energy. Innovation capacity and environmental pressure amplify the effects of environmental policy stringency on green innovation in the renewable energy field, and clean energy investment plays a crucial role in this process.
