Consumers' Benefit-Risk Perception on Pesticides and Food Safety-A Survey in Greece

Konstantinos B. Simoglou et al.

Summary: This study investigates Greek consumers' attitude towards pesticide use and finds that they have high concerns about pesticide residues in food but also recognize the beneficial contributions of pesticides to food security and the national economy. The study identifies several significant predictors, including personal values, pesticide user status, gender, confidence in controlling and certification procedures, and received information, that influence consumers' perception of the benefit-risks ratio of pesticide use.

Comparing Productivity of Organic and Conventional Farming Systems: A Quantitative Review

Roberto Alvarez

Summary: Recent studies have shown a yield gap between organic and conventional farming, with organic farming having an average yield 25% lower than conventional farming, reaching 30% for cereals. The intensity of soil use is also lower in organic systems, with reductions of 7% in field experiments and 20% in on-farm studies.

Financial profitability of diversified farming systems: A global meta-analysis

Andrea C. Sanchez et al.

Summary: A global meta-analysis of 3192 effect sizes from 119 peer-reviewed articles provides compelling evidence that diversified farming systems are at least as profitable as simplified systems. Furthermore, the study shows that labor costs in diversified systems can be offset by higher gross incomes, dispelling the myth that diversification is economically unviable.

Influence of neonicotinoids on pollinators: A review

Akanksha Singla et al.

Summary: Neonicotinoids negatively affect pollinators, leading to a decline in their population, mainly by affecting the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and thus impacting the behavioral attributes of pollinators. Future research will further clarify the main cause behind this loss.

Twenty Years of Common Agricultural Policy in Europe: A Bibliometric Analysis

Giulio Fusco

Summary: In recent years, policymakers have shown increasing attention to agricultural policies, with the Common Agricultural Policy being a major initiative of the European Commission to enhance the agricultural sector. Despite the fragmentation in the scientific debate caused by academics with different backgrounds, research continues to actively evaluate the public investments made by the European Commission. The study reveals the presence of three independent and complementary research clusters in the field of the Common Agricultural Policy.

Toxicity of the insecticide sulfoxaflor alone and in combination with the fungicide fluxapyroxad in three bee species

C. Azpiazu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the acute oral toxicity of the sulfoximine insecticide sulfoxaflor alone and in combination with the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor fungicide fluxapyroxad in three bee species. The results showed that Osmia bicornis was the most sensitive species to sulfoxaflor, with both O. bicornis and A. mellifera exhibiting significant synergism between the insecticide and the fungicide.

Pollination in Agroecosystems: A Review of the Conceptual Framework with a View to Sound Monitoring

Manuela Giovanetti et al.

Summary: The text discusses the pollination ecology in agroecosystems, emphasizing the need for plants and pollinators to adjust to human intervention. It explores the landscape features and discusses the importance of considering the pollinator scale as the main driver in monitoring tools for understanding agroecosystems.
