Optimized Whole-Body PET MRI Sequence Workflow in Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma Patients

Thomas W. Georgi et al.

Summary: 18F-FDG PET/MRI may be the preferred diagnostic method for Hodgkin lymphoma patients due to its combination of metabolic information from PET and excellent soft-tissue contrast from MRI, while avoiding radiation exposure from CT. However, longer examination times are a major issue, especially for children requiring anesthesia. Therefore, a targeted selection of suitable whole-body MRI sequences is important to optimize the PET/MRI workflow.

PET/MRI for staging patients with Hodgkin lymphoma: equivalent results with PET/CT in a prospective trial

M. Picardi et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of FDG-PET/unenhanced MRI and FDG-PET/diagnostic CT in detecting infiltration in patients with newly diagnosed HL. The findings showed equivalence between PET/MRI and PET/CT in defining the staging system, with a significant difference observed in bony infiltration detection rates. Overall, PET/MRI was identified as a promising safe alternative to PET/CT in the care of HL patients.

Lymphoma in children and adolescents

Ina Sorge et al.

Summary: This article discusses the clinical and methodological issues in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric lymphoma, emphasizing the key role of whole-body imaging in Hodgkin lymphoma and the importance of using hybrid imaging with F-18-FDG PET for staging and restaging of lymphoma. Standardization of imaging and including in therapy studies have improved diagnostics and reduced therapy-related side effects. The importance of adhering to prescribed diagnostic procedures in Hodgkin lymphoma and adapting diagnostic procedures to the actual clinical condition of the child in clinically heterogeneous non-Hodgkin lymphoma are also highlighted.
