All-cellulose functional membranes for water treatment: Adsorption of metal ions and catalytic decolorization of dyes

Dimitrios Georgouvelas et al.

Summary: A simple method for manufacturing all-cellulose layered membranes with high adsorption and catalytic properties for metal ions and organic dyes has been developed in this study, with a significant increase in hydrogenation efficiency for dyes achieved in the presence of membranes compared to NaBH4 alone. The membranes show great potential for water purification systems due to their water-based processing, abundance of component materials, and multifunctional characteristics.

A Perspective on the Sustainability of Cathode Materials used in Lithium-Ion Batteries

Beth E. Murdock et al.

Summary: The rise of electric vehicles has highlighted the importance of lithium-ion batteries as a vital green technology, but the large-scale mining for battery materials raises concerns regarding resource depletion and environmental, social, and governance issues. Insufficient research has been conducted on the socioenvironmental impacts of lithium-ion battery technology in the past, and the potential implications of increased nickel use in material management and development disciplines also lack attention.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of metals from Lithium-ion batteries using natural organic acids

Xiong Xiao et al.

Summary: An ultrasound-assisted extraction method was used to extract valuable metals from discarded lithium-ion batteries. It was found that using citric or acetic acid as the leaching agent, combined with ultrasound leaching, improved the efficiency of metal dissolution. The study showed that ultrasound leaching enhanced metal dissolution and facilitated a more environmentally friendly recovery of metals from batteries.
