Synthesis of p-n NiO-ZnO heterojunction for photodegradation of crystal violet dye

Muhammad Saeed et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic treatment of wastewater using metal oxides as photocatalysts has attracted significant attention. The efficiency of photocatalysis can be improved by separating the electrons and holes generated by photon absorption. A heterojunction between two semiconductors, such as p-n NiO-ZnO, has been developed to achieve efficient photodegradation of crystal violet dye. The synthesized heterojunction was characterized using various techniques, and its photocatalytic performance was found to be superior to pristine NiO and ZnO. Kinetic analysis of the degradation data was performed based on the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism.
