Organically modified montmorillonite as pH versatile carriers for delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid

Marinela Victoria Dumitru et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop innovative hybrid nanocomposites for the therapy of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs). By thermally treating and chemically modifying montmorillonite (MMT), 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) was successfully encapsulated within the modified MMT. The results showed that calcined MMT followed by silylation yielded high encapsulation efficiency of 5-ASA and stable release rates.

Preparation and characterizations of high doping chitosan/MMT nanocomposites films for removing iron from ground water

A. M. Shehap et al.

Summary: Chitosan and montmorillonite nanoparticles films were prepared with various weight percentages of MMT NPs, and the 40/60 wt% chitosan/MMT NPs ratio was found to be the most effective for iron adsorption, achieving 89.2% removal under optimal conditions. Analysis using XRD and FTIR-ATR confirmed the structural changes in the composite films, indicating interaction between chitosan and MMT NPs. Adsorption studies were conducted with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, showing that the process followed Langmuir isotherm and was spontaneous and endothermic. Characterization techniques such as HRSEM, EDX, and FTIR-ATR were used to confirm the adsorption process.
