Application of artificial neural network and full factorial method to predict the Poisson's ratio of double core helical auxetic yarn

Milad Razbin et al.

Summary: In this work, an experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of initial helical angle of wrap component, diameter ratio of components and modulus ratio of components on the Poisson's ratio of double core helical auxetic yarn (DC-HAY) using the full factorial method (FFM). Regression and artificial neural network (ANN) models were developed to predict the maximum NPR of DC-HAY, with the ANN model performing better. The sensitivity analysis showed that the modulus ratio of components is the most sensitive parameter affecting the output of the network.

A comprehensive analysis and prediction of the effect of groove shape and volume fraction of multi-walled carbon nanotubes on the polymer 3D-printed parts in the friction stir welding process

Mohammad Sadegh Javadi et al.

Summary: Polymers have wide applications, and fused deposition modeling (FDM) is a cost-effective technique for manufacturing polymer parts. However, the limitations of bed size in 3D printers restrict their applicability across industries. Friction stir welding (FSW) provides an excellent solution to join 3D-printed parts and overcome this limitation.

Sudhir Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, feedstock filaments of PLA and PA6/TiO(2) polymeric composite matrix were developed using a twin screw extrusion machine, and 3D printed functional prototypes with multiple materials were established using FDM. The optimized conditions for flexural strength and wear rate were determined, and the mechanical and morphological properties were analyzed using SEM and EDS.

Surface modification of prototypes in fused deposition modelling using lapping process

Mohammad Vahid Ehteshamfar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of lapping parameters on the surface roughness, material removal rate, and flexural strength of FDM manufactured ABS parts. The results demonstrate that increasing lapping time improves the surface roughness, while optimizing angular velocity and weight is necessary. Additionally, lapping significantly enhances the surface roughness of ABS samples and transforms the anisotropic behavior of additively manufactured parts to isotropic behavior without reducing the flexural strength. This study provides a new approach to improve the surface quality of FDM parts.

Experimental study on tensile strength of copper microparticles filled polymer composites printed by fused deposition modelling process

Hamed Adibi et al.

Summary: The study found that layer thickness and filling pattern had the highest effects on the ultimate tensile strength of printed materials (pure and composite) in the FDM process. Additionally, the results showed that the ultimate tensile strength of the ABS composite containing 5% copper was nearly 12.3% higher than the pure ABS part.

Summary: In this study, ABS composites filled with graphite powder were synthesized using FDM technique. The addition of graphite resulted in weight losses for FDM components and a decrease in coefficient of friction. The wear mechanisms in graphite filled ABS composites and ABS were extensively examined using microscopy techniques.

Impact and Shear Behavior of PLA/12%Cu Reinforced Composite Filament Printed at Different FDM Conditions

M. Venkata Pavan et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully used copper as a reinforcing component to produce PLA-Cu composite filament with 12% copper, conducting shear and impact tests. The FDM parameters have varying effects on impact load conditions, with nozzle temperature, bed temperature, and layer height being primary factors; while the shear test is primarily influenced by the layer thickness.
