Etiology of halitosis in pediatric dentistry

Carolina Reis Silva et al.

Summary: Halitosis, the third most common reason for dental visits, affects individuals of all ages, genders, and ethnicities. Limited studies have focused on its prevalence and etiology in the pediatric population. This review aimed to identify the etiological factors influencing pediatric halitosis and guide therapy based on the identified causes. The etiology of halitosis is multifactorial, primarily associated with the oral cavity but also potentially linked to otorhinolaryngological, respiratory, and gastric diseases.
