Combined intralesional triamcinolone acetonide and platelet rich plasma versus intralesional triamcinolone acetonide alone in treatment of keloids

El-Sayed Shaaban Hewedy et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of combining intralesional TA and PRP with TA alone in keloid treatment. The results showed that the combination therapy yielded better overall outcomes with lower incidence of TA-induced side effects.

Management of hypertrophic scars in adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Charles Choi et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis on the treatment of hypertrophic scars (HTS) in adults. The results showed that silicone gel and laser modalities were effective in improving scar appearance. Additionally, the combination of silicone or 5-fluorouracil with intralesional triamcinolone was more effective than monotherapy. However, the study's limitations include the exclusion of studies that did not use the Vancouver Scar Scale and the need for further research on the efficacy of different treatment modalities.

The Most Current Algorithms for the Treatment and Prevention of Hypertrophic Scars and Keloids: A 2020 Update of the Algorithms Published 10 Years Ago

Rei Ogawa

Summary: This article reviewed and updated the literature on hypertrophic scars and keloids. The findings suggest that treatment methods depend on the severity and number of scars, while prevention methods include local factors, systemic factors, genetic factors, and lifestyle factors. Conservative therapy is the preferred treatment for keloids, but surgery is necessary for severe scars.

The Efficacy of Drug Injection in the Treatment of Pathological Scar: A Network Meta-analysis

Pengfei Sun et al.

Summary: The network meta-analysis showed that the combined use of botulinum toxin type A and corticosteroids was the most effective in the injection treatment of pathological scars. There was no significant difference between other drugs, but the combination of corticosteroids with 5-FU was better than using them alone. It is recommended to use the combination of botulinum toxin type A and corticosteroids for injection treatment.

Intralesional verapamil in the treatment of keloids: A clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical study

Doaa A. E. Abou-Taleb et al.

Summary: Intralesional verapamil has shown significant efficacy in treating keloids, with consistent histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluations supporting the clinical observations. After treatment, there was a significant decrease in VEGF and MMP9 expressions, suggesting that the treatment may work by suppressing these factors. Overall, IL verapamil is a simple and relatively safe method for treating keloids.

Review The safety and efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide for keloids and hypertrophic scars: A systematic review and meta-analysis

ZhiHao Zhuang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) for hypertrophic scars and keloids through fifteen trials. Results showed that TAC may be beneficial for short-term treatment, while 5-FU, 5-FU+TAC, and verapamil may produce superior results for medium and long-term treatments. TAC injections at concentrations of 20 mg/ml or 40 mg/ml are more likely to result in skin atrophy compared to 5-FU or verapamil, and are more likely to cause telangiectasia than 5-FU, 5-FU+TAC, or bleomycin.

Intralesional pentoxifylline, triamcinolone acetonide, and their combination for treatment of keloid scars

Yasmin Magdy Abdulrahman Serag-Eldin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of intralesional PTX versus TAC and their combination for the treatment of keloids. Results showed that TAC and the combination group had better treatment outcomes compared to the PTX group, but with more side effects in the TAC group. PTX alone had lower efficacy but no reported side effects, while combining PTX and TAC produced significantly better results and reduced the risk of TAC-induced side effects.

Network Meta-Analysis of Different Clinical Commonly Used Drugs for the Treatment of Hypertrophic Scar and Keloid

Sha Yang et al.

Summary: The study recommends intralesional injection of TAC-BTA and TAC-5-FU combined therapies for the treatment of pathological scars, showing their superior efficacy. Other treatment strategies did not show significant differences in clinical efficiency. Further confirmation through randomized controlled trials is needed for these conclusions.
