A Comparative Study on the Shear Behavior of UHPC Beams with Macro Hooked-End Steel Fibers and PVA Fibers

Manuel Bermudez et al.

Summary: The shear behavior of UHPC beams can be enhanced by using MHS fibers and PVA fibers. The study shows that both types of fibers are effective in improving the shear performance of UHPC beams, whether the shear transfer mechanism is governed by arch action or beam action, and they exhibit distinct differences in fiber bridging effects.

Shear Behavior of Ultrahigh-Performance Concrete Pretensioned Bridge Girders

Rafic G. El-Helou et al.

Summary: Due to their strain-hardening characteristics, ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) materials have significant advantages in terms of beam shear capacity and postcracking behavior compared to conventional reinforced-concrete beams. Experimental investigation on prestressed UHPC bridge girders reveals that the shear behavior and capacities are largely dependent on the tensile characteristics of UHPC. These results demonstrate UHPC's capability to sustain its strain-hardening characteristics at the structural scale and highlight the importance of crack localization strain for the global shear performance of UHPC girders.

Experimental study on shear performances of ultra-high performance concrete deep beams

Baochun Chen et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the shear behaviors of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) deep beams, considering different parameters. The results show that the shear strength of UHPC specimens increases with concrete strength and reinforcement ratio, but decreases with increasing shear span to effective depth ratio. Both beam action and arch action coexist in UHPC deep beams.

Characteristics of eco-friendly ultra-high-performance geopolymer concrete incorporating waste materials

Ahmed M. Tahwia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of waste materials on the performance of eco-friendly ultra-high-performance geopolymer concrete (UHPGC) and found that mechanical and microstructural characteristics of UHPGC improved with increasing crushed glass (CG) content. The research demonstrated that waste materials can be successfully used in UHPGC production.

Shear behaviour of ultra-high performance concrete beams with openings

Mahmoud Elsayed et al.

Summary: This experimental investigation studied the shear behaviour of Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) beams with web openings. The study examined the effects of steel fibre content, opening position, opening shape, and reinforcement schemes on shear behaviour. The results showed that increasing steel fibre content improved shear strength and stiffness, while the presence of web openings decreased shear strength.

Durability and microstructure of eco-efficient ultra-high-performance concrete

Ahmed M. Tahwia et al.

Summary: The study found that using fly ash (FA) as a high percentage replacement for cement has a positive effect on enhancing the performance of UHPC, with higher compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. However, for the use of CEM III or GBFS, the attack period, sulfate concentration, or replacement percentage need to be reduced to maintain the ultra-high performance of the concrete.
