The Association of Choroidal Thickening by Atropine With Treatment Effects for Myopia: Two-Year Clinical Trial of the Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Progression (LAMP) Study

Jason C. Yam et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the longitudinal changes in sub-foveal choroidal thickness (SFChT) among children receiving different concentrations of atropine for myopia control. The results showed that higher concentrations of atropine resulted in thicker choroids. The thickening of choroids was associated with slower progression of myopia and reduced elongation of axial length.

Efficacy and Safety of Consecutive Use of 1% and 0.01% Atropine for Myopia Control in Chinese Children: The Atropine for Children and Adolescent Myopia Progression Study

Luyao Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy and safety of consecutive use of 1% and 0.01% atropine compared with 0.01% atropine alone in the treatment of myopia. The results showed that consecutive use of atropine had a better effect in slowing myopia progression than using atropine alone.

Comparisons of atropine versus cyclopentolate cycloplegia in myopic children

Luyao Ye et al.

Summary: In clinical practice, 1% atropine and 1% cyclopentolate are commonly used as cycloplegic agents to diagnose refractive error in myopic children. This study found that both cyclopentolate and atropine resulted in choroidal thickening, but the effects of atropine were more significant, suggesting that the choroid may be a site of action for atropine.

Differences in Retinal and Choroidal Vasculature and Perfusion Related to Axial Length in Pediatric Anisomyopes

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: In children with anisomyopia, eyes with longer axial lengths tend to have lower choroidal vascularity and choriocapillaris perfusion than the contralateral eyes with shorter axial lengths. The interocular asymmetry in choroidal features is significantly associated with the interocular asymmetry in axial lengths.

Assessment of Choroidal Vascularity and Choriocapillaris Blood Perfusion in Anisomyopic Adults by SS-OCT/OCTA

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: In anisomyopic young adults, choroidal vascularity and choriocapillaris blood perfusion were lower in the more myopic eyes. These changes were correlated with the severity of myopia and choroidal thinning, suggesting disturbances in choroidal blood flow in human myopia.
