Role of surface defects in the third order nonlinear optical properties of pristine NiO and Cr doped NiO nanostructures

P. Soumya Menon et al.

Summary: Pristine NiO and 2% Cr doped NiO nanostructures were synthesized successfully using the modified auto-combustion method. They exhibit nonlinear optical behavior suitable for fabricating efficient optical limiting devices. The third order nonlinear absorption coefficients confirmed their suitability for protecting human eyes and optical sensors from hazardous laser radiation under pulsed and continuous wave excitations.

High-damage vanadium pentoxide film saturable absorber for sub-nanosecond Nd:YAG lasers

Jiang Wang et al.

Summary: Low-dimensional materials have been extensively studied as saturable absorbers for sub-nanosecond pulse lasers due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. In this study, high-quality vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) films were prepared by magnetron sputtering deposition, and their nonlinear optical properties were investigated. The V2O5-SA films exhibited larger damage threshold (509.8 mJ/cm2), higher modulation depth (21.8%), and the shortest pulse width (59 ns), providing a promising solution for the development of high-quality low-dimensional SA devices in short pulse solid-state lasers.

Formation and selected catalytic properties of ruthenium, rhodium, osmium and iridium nanoparticles

Jan Krajczewski et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the synthesis methods and applications of nanoparticles formed from less frequently used members of the platinum family (ruthenium, rhodium, osmium, and iridium). It emphasizes on examples where the catalytic activity is clearly dependent on the size and shape of the nanoparticles used.

Iridium and IrOx nanoparticles: an overview and review of syntheses and applications

Jonathan Quinson

Summary: Precious metal nanomaterials, including iridium-based nanomaterials, are widely used in various fields such as optics, catalysis, pollution management, sensing, and medicine. Despite the relatively small size and easy synthesis of iridium nanoparticles and clusters, there is still limited understanding of their formation mechanisms. This review provides an overview of synthetic strategies for iridium nanoparticles and discusses their applications. Supplementary material is also provided, including synthesis protocols, the historical role of iridium nanoparticles in nanoscience, and their applications in catalysis.

Synthesis, characterization and nonlinear optical response of polyelectrolyte-stabilized copper hydroxide and copper oxide colloidal nanohybrids

Michalis Stavrou et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of polyelectrolyte-stabilized copper-based nanohybrids with tunable sizes and chemical composition, including PSS-Cu(OH)2 and PSS-CuO/Cu(OH)2 nanohybrids, as well as their nonlinear optical (NLO) response under different excitation conditions. The results indicate that factors such as nanoparticle size and chemical composition, as well as laser parameters, greatly influence the NLO response of these nanohybrids.
