Facile preparation of omniphobic PDTS-ZnO-PVDF membrane with excellent anti-wetting property in direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD)

Jun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, an omniphobic membrane with excellent anti-wetting performance was fabricated using a simple method. The anti-wetting performance was systematically evaluated under different conditions. Theoretical analysis was conducted to explain the anti-wetting mechanism. The resultant membrane displayed remarkable resistance for both surfactant-induced and scaling-induced wetting.

Comparative study on effect of ionic liquids on static stability of green emulsion liquid membrane

Avinash Thakur et al.

Summary: The emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) technique is an economical and energy-efficient method for extracting toxic pollutants, but its stability is a major challenge for large-scale applications. The green emulsion liquid membrane (GELM) process overcomes this challenge by using vegetable oils as green solvents and incorporating ionic liquids to improve stability. This study investigates the effect of different constituents and parameters on GELM stability using ionic liquids and achieves a significant enhancement in stability under optimized conditions.

Sustainable and effective contaminants transport beyond stability barrier of supported liquid membrane: How crucial and vital is the green membrane system

Mohd Hazarel Zairy Mohd Harun et al.

Summary: Supported liquid membrane (SLM) is an efficient membrane technology for selectively extracting contaminants from wastewater. However, there are challenges in terms of chemical selection, membrane instability, and low stripping which limit its commercialization. Strategies such as using vegetable oil, ionic liquid, and deep eutectic solvent as green solvents, and employing pseudo strip dispersion, polymeric support modification, and nanoparticles, as well as stripping synergy and in-situ electrodeposition can improve the performance of SLM towards a greener and more sustainable membrane system for wastewater treatment.

Optimisation of Ibuprofen Extraction by Emulsion Liquid Membrane Using Box-Behnken Design

Mohd Hazarel Zairy Mohd Harun et al.

Summary: Emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) is a potential method for extracting ibuprofen (IBP) from aqueous solution. The concentrations of the carrier, surfactant and internal phases are important parameters to optimize the extraction efficiency of IBP. The study used Box-Behnken design (BBD) to optimize the main parameters of ELM, and found that Span 80 and Na2CO3 had a significant interaction in the extraction of IBP. The optimized parameters resulted in a 96.78% extraction efficiency of IBP.

Comparison of the new Cl2/O3/UV process with different ozone- and UV-based AOPs for wastewater treatment at pilot scale: Removal of pharmaceuticals and changes in fluorescing organic matter

Massimiliano Sgroi et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficiency of different UV- and ozone-based advanced oxidation processes for removing pharmaceuticals and pollutants from tertiary wastewater effluent. Chlorine-based AOPs were found to be more effective in reducing fluorescence intensities and degrading target micro-pollutants, with the Cl-2/O-3/UV process being the most effective. Unique regression parameters were identified for each compound, surrogate parameter, and oxidation process, showing that a diverse PARAFAC component was the most sensitive surrogate parameter for monitoring small changes in pharmaceutical removal.

Recent trends in the use of FTIR spectroscopy integrated with chemometrics for the detection of edible oil adulteration

Rahul Jamwal et al.

Summary: Edible oils are important in daily life for cooking and as ingredients, but adulteration incidents have increased due to high demand. Traditional analytical methods are time-consuming and lack online monitoring, while FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics provides a rapid and accurate solution for detecting different adulterants in edible oils. This review highlights the critical findings and recent studies on the application of FTIR spectroscopy integrated with chemometric tools for adulteration detection in edible oils.
