Do natural resources and economic components exhibit differential quantile environmental effects?

Summary: Considering the resource curse assumption, the environmental aspects of resource utilization pose significant dangers to human existence. This study analyzes data from MENA countries with abundant oil and gas reserves to examine the contribution of natural resources to environmental quality. The analysis reveals that natural resource utilization has a negative impact on the environment, which decreases until the 50th percentile and then starts rising again towards the upper percentiles. Primary energy utilization and globalization worsen and improve the environmental quantile, particularly in the upper percentiles, while income confirms an inverted U-shaped hypothesis across all percentiles. Furthermore, there is a significant one-way directional causality from natural resources, economic expansion, primary energy use, and globalization to carbon emissions levels. Therefore, the study provides environmentally friendly resource utilization policies for MENA economies and other resource-rich countries.

Exports have a positive direct effect on TCO2 emissions but a negative effect on CCO2 emissions, indicating that exports raise domestic emissions while helping reduce emissions in neighboring countries. Imports have positive effects on both TCO2 and CCO2 emissions. FDI has negative effects on CCO2 emissions and positive effects on TCO2 emissions. The study suggests promoting financial market development, FDI, and exports to have positive ecological effects in the GCC countries.

Regional Effects of Maternal Mortality Determinants in Africa and the Middle East: How About Political Risks of Conflicts?

Effect of Islamic Financial Development on Carbon Emissions: A Spatial Econometric Analysis

Insights from European nations on the spatial impacts of renewable energy sources on CO2 emissions

Summary: Previous studies have overlooked the geospatial dynamics effects and the disaggregation of renewable energy (RE) components when assessing the impacts on CO2 emissions in European countries. This study fills these gaps by investigating the effects of various forms of RE on CO2 emissions in 36 European countries from 2000 to 2018. Spatial econometric models reveal that increasing mature RE technologies such as geothermal and hydropower can lower CO2 emissions, while more advanced technologies like solar, wind, and bioenergy either increase or have no impact on CO2 emissions. Increasing RE sources as a whole result in a reduction of CO2 emissions in the sample countries.
