Kinetic and Equilibrium Isotherm Studies for the Removal of Tetracycline from Aqueous Solution Using Engineered Sand Modified with Calcium Ferric Oxides

Osamah Al-Hashimi et al.

Summary: The novel aspect of this research is the use of a fabricated adsorbent made from quartz sand coated with calcium ferric oxides (QS/CFO) derived from wastepaper sludge ash (WPSA) for the removal of tetracycline (TC) from synthetic water. Through various experiments and batch tests, it has been proven that the engineered adsorbent can effectively remove TC from water under certain conditions, with the chemical forces being a major contributor.

Synthesis of carbon disulfide modified chitosan resin and its adsorption properties for palladium(II) in wastewater

Liuzhou Chen et al.

Summary: A novel chitosan resin microsphere (CDCR) adsorbent synthesized by secondary crosslinking and carbon disulfide modification was tested for its effectiveness in recovering palladium from wastewater. The physicochemical properties and adsorption mechanism of CDCR were studied using various techniques. Results showed a saturated adsorption capacity of 204.34 mg/g, with the adsorption process following the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model. The reaction between CDCR and Pd(II) was found to be a spontaneous endothermic process. CDCR exhibited good reusability and selectivity towards Pd(II) adsorption, primarily attributed to electrostatic interactions and complexation.

Comparison of bioconcentration and kinetics of GenX in tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus in fresh and brackish water

Samreen Siddiqui et al.

Summary: Contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) are a broad suite of chemicals commonly found in the environment, aquatic organisms, and even drinking water, with GenX raising concerns. Through exposure experiments on tilapia fingerlings, it was found that bioconcentration of GenX in all tissues increased with rising salinity, potentially impacting marine organisms and human exposure.

Adsorption of perfluoroalkyl acids on granular activated carbon supported chitosan: Role of nanobubbles

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the role of nanobubbles in the adsorption process of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) using a chitosan/granular activated carbon composite adsorbent. Our findings showed that nanobubbles can enhance the removal rate of PFAAs, and PFAAs with different chain lengths have different adsorption mechanisms. Longer chain PFAAs can be directly enriched on the composite adsorbents, while electrostatic interactions primarily affect the adsorption of shorter chain PFAAs.

Adsorption using chitosan and nano zerovalent iron composite material for sustainable water treatment

S. R. Sowmya et al.

Summary: This study focuses on using advanced composite materials made of chitosan, activated carbon, and zerovalent iron nanoparticles to adsorb Congo red dye, achieving 100% adsorption efficiency. Through investigating critical parameters and using Box-Behnken design of experiments, the study analyzed the effects of variables on the adsorption process. The results demonstrate that the composite material proposed in this study can serve as an economical and efficient method for water treatment, particularly for wastewater purification.

Summary: This study compared the differences between fungal and animal chitosan, finding that despite their similar chemical properties, they showed significant variations in viscosity and fining properties. This suggests that physical-chemical differences in molecular structure exist between the two chitosan categories, significantly impacting their oenological properties.

Removal of iron, zinc, and nickel-ions using nano bentonite and its applications on power station wastewater

A. M. Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Nano bentonite as an adsorbent for removing Iron, Zinc, and Nickel ions from wastewater, finding that adsorption efficiency increased with certain parameters such as temperature and solution volume. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models were applied, showing that the process was endothermic. Nano bentonite was found to be effective for removal of Fe (III), Zn (II), and Ni (II) under the experimental conditions examined.
