Homogeneous double-layer TiO2-ZrO2-SiO2 photocatalyst with multi-heterojunction structure for enhanced visible light-responsive photocatalytic activity

Yuanting Wu et al.

Summary: We constructed a homogeneous double-layer TiO2-ZrO2-SiO2 photocatalyst with multi-heterojunction (D-TZS) using a simple sol-gel method, which effectively improves the photocatalytic property. By investigating various factors, we found that D-TZS can degrade Rh B by about 99.6% within 40 minutes and almost completely degrade it within 60 minutes. This is attributed to the homogeneity, multiple heterojunctions, and oxygen vacancies of D-TZS.

An excellent universal catalyst support-mesoporous silica: Preparation, modification and applications in energy-related reactions

Yuli Wei et al.

Summary: Mesoporous silicas (mSiO(2)), as versatile and excellent catalyst carriers, have been widely used for preparing supported catalysts with ideal catalytic properties. The uniform channels, adjustable pore size, high hydrothermal stability, and easy functional modification of mSiO(2) contribute to enhanced catalytic activity, selectivity, and cyclic lifespan. Additionally, the high adsorption capacity of mSiO(2) improves reactant molecule enrichment. The mesoporous structure of mSiO(2) pore walls ensures proper diffusion and prevents leaching of active components. This review provides a detailed introduction to the development and applications of mesoporous silica-based catalysts, particularly in hydrogenation reactions, esterification reactions, hydrogen production, and photo catalytic water splitting.

Synthesis and Characterization of SiO2/TiO2 as Photocatalyst on Methylene Blue Degradation

Aleksandra Babyszko et al.

Summary: This paper presents a modification of titanium dioxide with fumed silica and investigates the characteristics and photocatalytic activity of the materials. The results show that the presence of SiO2 effectively inhibits the increase in crystallite size and decrease in specific surface area during calcination. SiO2 also contributes to the increase in specific surface area and the change in band gap energy values. The photocatalytic activity of SiO2/TiO2 photocatalysts is higher compared to the starting TiO2, and it increases with the increase in SiO2 content.
