Assessment of primary healthcare accessibility and inequality in north-eastern Kazakhstan

Askhat Shaltynov et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the accessibility of healthcare resources and economic inequality in the northeastern part of Kazakhstan. Through the use of a geographic information system and various evaluation indicators, it was found that rural areas have lower accessibility but more equitable resource distribution. The developed models can serve as a reference for the government's initiatives to improve the availability of primary healthcare services in rural areas.

Healthcare accessibility in preconflict Syria: a comparative spatial analysis

Mhd Nour Audi et al.

Summary: This study provides an analysis of health inequalities in Syria, specifically focusing on the spatial access to public hospitals. The findings reveal high inequality in access to public hospitals among and within governorates, with the north and eastern regions experiencing the most pronounced disparities. The use of the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method provides more nuanced insights about hospital bed allocation than the provider to population ratio (PPR) method. These findings highlight the need for further research and attention to address the disparities in health access in Syria.

Measuring hospital spatial accessibility using the enhanced two-step floating catchment area method to assess the impact of spatial accessibility to hospital and non-hospital care on the length of hospital stay

Fei Gao et al.

Summary: This study measured spatial accessibility to inpatient hospital care in France using the E2SFCA method for the first time, and investigated the relationship between healthcare utilization (LOS score) and spatial accessibility to inpatient hospital care facilities and three types of non-hospital care services. The findings suggest the need for deploying additional beds and identifying optimal locations for non-hospital care services to improve access and ensure better coordination and sustainability of healthcare services.

Different configurations of the two-step floating catchment area method for measuring the spatial accessibility to hospitals for people living with disability: a cross-sectional study

Behzad Kiani et al.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the potential spatial accessibility of people living with disability by applying four configurations of the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method. The enhanced version (E2SFCA) with a severity index displayed the best performance among the four models used. Most people with disabilities lived in neighbourhoods located in the South-western and central areas of the city, where poor hospital accessibility was identified.
