Clinical Effectiveness of Elexacaftor/Tezacaftor/Ivacaftor in People with Cystic Fibrosis

David P. Nichols et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates significant improvements in lung function, respiratory symptoms, and body mass index in CF patients using ETI therapy, regardless of their familiarity with modulators or prior drug use. Significant reductions in sweat chloride concentration were also observed, correlating with improved lung function in the overall study population.

Clinical characteristics of Pseudomonas and Aspergillus co-infected cystic fibrosis patients: A UK registry study

Dominic A. Hughes et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impacts of Aspergillus (Asp) infection and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa)/Asp co-infection in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. The results showed that patients with Pa-/Asp + had lower lung function compared to Pa-/Asp- patients, but Asp infection did not have an additional impact on lung function in Pai or Pac patients. However, Pac/Asp + patients had a higher likelihood of requiring intravenous antibiotic treatment. Asp infection itself was associated with disease severity indicators.

Clinical Outcomes of Antipseudomonal versus Other Antibiotics among Children with Cystic Fibrosis without Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Jonathan D. Cogen et al.

Summary: The selection of antibiotics for managing pulmonary exacerbation in children with cystic fibrosis is usually based on previous respiratory culture results. However, there is currently a lack of data to guide the selection of antibiotics for children who have been culture negative for Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) for at least one year.

Changes in symptom scores as a potential clinical endpoint for studies of cystic fibrosis pulmonary exacerbation treatment

D. R. VanDevanter et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the changes in CRISS during intravenous antimicrobial exacerbation treatments and finds that CRISS reduction is associated with higher baseline CRISS and younger age of subjects. CRISS may serve as an effective endpoint for PEx interventional trials.

Longitudinal course of clinical lung clearance index in children with cystic fibrosis

Bettina S. Frauchiger et al.

Summary: This study described the longitudinal course of LCI in children with CF during routine clinical surveillance, finding a more pronounced increase in LCI during adolescence. Factors such as colonization with Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Aspergillus fumigatus, pulmonary exacerbations, CF-related diabetes, and bronchopulmonary aspergillosis were associated with a higher increase in LCI over time.
