Corrosion inhibition properties of schiff base derivative against mild steel in HCl environment complemented with DFT investigations

Nadia Betti et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in using Schiff bases as cutting-edge corrosion inhibitors for mild steel. In this study, the effectiveness of a Schiff base, MTIO, in preventing mild steel corrosion in HCl was investigated. The experimental results showed that 0.5 mM MTIO exhibited a satisfactory inhibitor efficiency of 96.9% at 303 K. The MTIO molecules physically and chemically adsorbed onto the mild steel surface, forming a compact protective film attributed to the presence of a thiazole ring in the MTIO structure.

Experimental and theoretical study on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel by nonanedioic acid derivative in hydrochloric acid solution

Ahmed A. Al-Amiery et al.

Summary: The corrosion performance of mild steel in 1M HCl solution was investigated in the presence of a green corrosion inhibitor called nonanedihydrazide. The inhibitor showed high adsorption on the steel surface and acted as a mixed inhibitor. The corrosion inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in the inhibitor concentration and decreased with an increase in temperature. Theoretical computations using density functional theory supported the experimental findings and provided insights into the inhibitive mechanism of nonanedihydrazide.

EIS Investigation of the Corrosion Behavior of Steel Bars Embedded into Modified Concretes with Eggshell Contents

Yuri Alexandre Meyer et al.

Summary: This study focuses on evaluating the corrosion behavior of steel bars embedded in concretes, by replacing a portion of sand and cement contents with eggshell particles. The corrosion behavior is evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the potentiodynamic polarization technique. The results show that the use of finer eggshell particles in the concrete mixture can enhance the passivation of the rebar and improve corrosion resistance. This environmentally friendly and economical concrete shows great potential for practical applications.

Summary: The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution by N'- (2- (2oxomethylpyrrol-1-yl) ethyl) piperidine (N-OPEP) was studied, and it was found to be an excellent corrosion inhibitor with its inhibitory performance increasing with inhibitor concentration but decreasing with solution temperature. The adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the mild steel surface followed Langmuir's isotherm model and was proven to be spontaneous. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs confirmed the formation of a protective layer of the inhibitor molecules on the mild steel surface.
