Cannon Coats et al.

Summary: A helium-free test cryostat is being constructed to support the testing of superconducting wires, cables, and windings. It utilizes three cryocoolers and an LN2-shielded open-top cryostat to cool thermal intercept shells at different temperatures. Ternary leads are used for supplying and returning current for two different circuits, and a closed-flow liquid helium loop is used to cool the Nb3Sn CIC windings of a 10 T background field dipole.

Suppressing the donor-like effect via fast extrusion engineering for high thermoelectric performance of polycrystalline Bi2Te2.79Se0.21

Xusheng Liu et al.

Summary: High zT and good mechanical properties are achieved for Bi2Te3-based alloys through hot extrusion, which refines the large grains and reduces the donor-like effect. The extruded polycrystalline Bi2Te2.79Se0.21 exhibits preferred orientation and high carrier mobility. The total thermal conductivity is decreased due to enhanced phonon scattering. This study provides a fast and low-cost technique to improve the TE and mechanical properties of commercial Bi2Te3 ingots at room temperature.
