Winter wheat yield and soil critical phosphorus value response to yearly rainfall and P fertilization on the Loess Plateau of China

Zhiyuan Gao et al.

Summary: The yield of winter wheat is influenced by the wheat-yearly rainfall and phosphorus fertilizer application. In years with dry and intermediate rainfall, the critical value of soil available phosphorus (AP) for wheat production is lower. Therefore, phosphorus fertilization management in dryland wheat production should consider the rainfall and soil critical AP value.

Katarzyna Mikula et al.

Summary: This work proposes a method to valorize lead slag by selectively recovering valuable microelements while retaining toxic elements. The slag was treated with potassium hydrogen sulfate and ammonia liquor under strongly oxidizing conditions to achieve effective leaching. Response Surface Methodology was used to optimize the leaching conditions. The extracts obtained from the leaching process showed promising potential as alternative sources of micronutrients for fertilizer production.

A comparative life cycle assessment of biofertilizer production towards sustainable utilization of anaerobic digestate

Ahmed Alengebawy et al.

Summary: This study evaluates and compares four scenarios of digestate utilization through a life cycle assessment. The results show that the liquid biofertilizer (LBF) scenario has the highest environmental benefits, while the biocompost (BC) scenario has the least benefits. However, all the scenarios show environmental gains compared to chemical fertilizers, with the top three emission reduction categories being marine aquatic ecotoxicity, global warming, and human toxicity.

The challenges and perspectives for anaerobic digestion of animal waste and fertilizer application of the digestate

Mateusz Samoraj et al.

Summary: The increase in livestock production creates challenges in managing animal waste and by-products. Anaerobic digestion is a promising waste valorization method that not only recycles materials but also produces renewable energy in the form of biogas. Effluent and digestate from this process can be used in agriculture after further processing. Various methods and controls ensure the efficiency of the anaerobic digestion process, as evidenced by literature data showing increased yield, nitrogen uptake, phosphorus recovery rate, and biometric parameters of plants.
