The effects of steel, polypropylene, and high-performance macro polypropylene fibers on mechanical properties and durability of high-strength concrete

Haniyeh Hosseinzadeh et al.

Summary: The study compared the properties of high-strength and ordinary concrete with different types of fibers (PPFs, HPP fibers, and SF) under standard and sulfate curing conditions. The addition of PPF and SF reduced the workability of the mixtures containing supplementary cementitious material. The mixture with 1% SF and 0.2% PPF showed the highest compressive strength, while the mixture with 0.5% HPP fibers, 1% SF, and 0.2% PPF showed the highest tensile strength. The flexural strength was highest in the mixture with 0.5% HPP fibers and 1% SF. Fiber-reinforced concretes had lower 30-minute water absorption compared to non-fiber samples, with the sample containing 0.5% PPF and 20% silica fume showing the lowest absorption of 0.53%.

A comprehensive study on physico-mechanical properties of non-metallic fibre reinforced SCC blended with metakaolin and alcofine

S. S. Vivek et al.

Summary: This study presents a detailed experimental investigation on the effects of incorporating non-metallic fibers in hybrid form in self-compacting concrete. The experimental results revealed that the fresh properties of SCC were highly influenced by the adoption of Alccofine and Metakaolin. Additionally, the hybrid combination of abaca with polypropylene and glass fibers improved the mechanical properties of SCC, with the mix containing 1% glass fiber and 0.25% Abaca fiber showing better flexural and tensile strength behavior.

Experimental investigation on the high-volume fly ash ecological self-compacting concrete

Weiguo Shen et al.

Summary: This study proposed an innovative mix proportion design method for preparing ecological self-compacting concrete (Eco-SCC) with more coarse aggregates and higher fly ash content to reduce environmental impacts. By optimizing the mix proportion, Eco-SCC achieved better mechanical properties, lower shrinkage ratio, and lower porosity compared to conventional SCC, while requiring less cementitious materials and costing less on raw materials and construction.

Mathematical model for the impact strength of triple-blended steel fiber self-compacting concrete based on the experimental study

S. Vijaya Kumar et al.

Summary: This technical research paper focuses on studying the impact strength behavior of steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) using a triple blended technique. The triple blended technique involves replacing a portion of cement with fly ash (FA) and condensed silica fume (CSF) by mass to meet the rheological requirements of self-compacting concrete (SCC). Steel fibers with different aspect ratios are added to the concrete, and their effects on impact strength are investigated. The specimens are subjected to impact testing according to ACI specifications, and a regression equation is derived based on experimental values. The validity of the equation is verified through a mathematical model.

Feasibility Study of Reusing Wash Water and Steel Fibre Simultaneously on Workability, Mechanical Properties and Fracture Toughness of Concrete

M. Taghizadeh et al.

Summary: The study confirmed that the use of wash water and steel fiber in concrete may affect the mechanical properties of concrete. While the use of wash water and steel fibers can increase tensile and flexural strength, simultaneous use of both may decrease compressive strength. The maximum tensile and flexural strengths were achieved in concrete samples with 100% wash water and steel fibers, respectively.

Experimental study of mechanical and fresh properties of HVFA-SCC with and without PP fibers

Lingzhu Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the mechanical and fresh properties of novel high-volume fly ash-self compacting concretes (HVFA-SCCs) and explores the effects of adding high-volume polypropylene (PP) fibers and seawater on its performance. The results suggest that HVFA-SCC, high-volume PP fibers reinforced HVFA-SCC, seawater and sea-sand HVFA-SCC can be feasibly used in various constructions.

Influence of the bleeding characteristic on density and rheology in cement slurry

Xiaochen Wang et al.

Summary: The bleeding characteristic of Portland cement influences its density and rheological behavior, with higher water-cement ratios leading to faster density growth speed and degree during bleeding. The apparent viscosity of the slurry shows two stages of change with bleeding time, indicating a transition from weak to stronger interactions within the cement slurry particles. The Herschel-Bulkley model performs better in describing the rheological characteristics of slurry bleeding compared to other empirical models.

The effect of trio-fiber reinforcement on the properties of self-compacting fly ash concrete

Ali Oz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanical and durability properties of trio-fiber self-compacting concrete (TFSCC) containing fly ash. Results showed that the flow diameter decreased with increasing rates of steel and polypropylene fibers, while it increased with the increasing rates of fly ash and brass-coated steel fiber. Additionally, it was found that fly ash had favorable effects on concrete microstructure, enhancing compactness and adherence on interfaces.
