Myopic macular Bruch's membrane defects

Songhomitra Panda-Jonas et al.

Summary: This study examined the histologic characteristics of macular Bruch's membrane defects (BMD) in elongated eyes. The results showed that the prevalence and size of BMDs correlated with longer axial length and higher prevalence of scleral staphylomas. The BMDs were larger than gaps in the inner nuclear layer and inner limiting membrane, but smaller than gaps in the retinal pigment epithelium. The results suggest an association between BMDs and scotomas, stretching of the adjacent retinal nerve fiber layer, and an elongation-associated stretching effect on Bruch's membrane.

Elongation of the Retina and Ciliary Body in Dependence of the Sagittal Eye Diameter

Songhomitra Panda-Jonas et al.

Summary: The study shows that as the axial length of the eye elongates, the lengths of the retina and ciliary body also elongate. The lengths of the ciliary body and retina are correlated with each other, potentially impacting myopia in the eyes.

Optic nerve head anatomy in myopia and glaucoma, including parapapillary zones alpha, beta, gamma and delta: Histology and clinical features

Ya Xing Wang et al.

Summary: The optic nerve head can be divided into the optic disc and the parapapillary region, with zones alpha, beta, gamma, and delta, which are associated with glaucoma and myopia. Myopic shift influences the shape and size of the optic disc, leading to changes in the lamina cribrosa and Bruch's membrane within highly myopic eyes.
