Assessing available phytochemicals from commercial blackcurrant and raspberry pomaces

Hannah Arnold et al.

Summary: This study investigates the content, composition, and changes in phytochemicals in raspberry and black currant pomaces before and after oil extraction. The results show that milling/oil extraction increases the yield and phytochemical diversity in raspberry extracts, but has no effect on black currant pomace.

Identification of quantitative trait loci and candidate genes controlling seed pigments of rapeseed

ZHU Mei-chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a population of rapeseed recombinant inbred lines was used to map candidate genes controlling seed pigments, revealing 94 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for seed pigments distributed across 15 of the 19 rapeseed chromosomes. Consensus regions on chromosomes A06, A09 and C08 were associated with multiple seed pigment traits. Through RNA-seq and qRT-PCR analysis, 12 candidate genes potentially involved in pigment accumulation were identified.

Combining QTL Mapping and Gene Expression Analysis to Elucidate the Genetic Control of 'Crumbly' Fruit in Red Raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.)

Luca M. Scolari et al.

Summary: The study defined two distinct crumbly phenotypes in raspberry, namely crumbly fruit disorder (CFD) and malformed fruit disorder (MFD). By examining segregation of crumbly fruit in a full-sib family, three QTL were identified on a high density Genotype by Sequencing (GbS) linkage map, shedding light on the genetic control of crumbly fruit. A microarray experiment comparing normal and crumbly fruit identified differentially expressed genes within the QTL, highlighting the importance of compromised ovule fertilization processes as triggers of crumbly fruit.
