Visible-Light-Driven Enantioselective Radical Addition to Imines Enabled by the Excitation of a Chiral Phosphoric Acid-Imine Complex

Tatsuhiro Uchikura et al.

Summary: A visible-light-driven enantioselective radical addition to imines was developed by directly exciting a chiral phosphoric acid-imine complex. Chiral amine products were obtained with high enantioselectivities using benzothiazolines as the radical precursors (up to 98% ee). Mechanistic studies revealed the photoredox activities of the chiral phosphoric acid-imine complex in oxidizing benzothiazolines.

Visible-light-driven photocatalyst-free deoxygenative alkylation of imines with alcohols

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a photocatalyst-free visible-light-promoted deoxygenative alkylation method has been developed. Carbon disulfide and tricyclohexylphosphine are utilized to assist the activation of alcohols under the influence of visible light. This method allows for the selective bond cleavage of diverse primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols via C-O homolysis, enabling their reaction with N-sulfonyl and N-aryl imines and providing a general and efficient platform for the synthesis of alpha-branched amines.

Nitrogen-centered radical-mediated α-sulfonimidation of ketones

Wenbin Shang et al.

Summary: An efficient and practical strategy for the nitrogen-centered radical mediated alpha-sulfonimidation of carbonyl compounds has been established. This strategy enables the sulfonimidation of enol esters to alpha-sulfonimide ketones under ambient conditions, and offers a convenient method for reacting with a diverse range of aromatic and aliphatic ketones with multiple structures. Additionally, it allows for stereoselective alpha-sulfonimidation in complex natural products when a bulky leaving group is employed.

Switchable, Reagent-Controlled Diastereodivergent Photocatalytic Carbocyclisation of Imine-Derived α-Amino Radicals

J. Andrew P. Maitland et al.

Summary: This study describes a reagent-controlled stereodivergent carbocyclisation of aryl aldimine-derived, photocatalytically generated alpha-amino radicals possessing adjacent conjugated alkenes. The reaction can afford either bicyclic or tetracyclic products, with high selectivity and good-to-excellent yields. Computational analysis using DFT revealed the reaction pathway and mechanistic rationale behind this finely balanced yet readily controlled photocatalytic system.

Visible light-mediated cross-coupling of electrophiles: synthesis of α-amino amides from isocyanates and ketimines

Junli Zhu et al.

Summary: A catalytic system utilizing visible light iridium photoredox catalysis has been developed for synthesizing alpha-amino amides through the umpolung reactivity of ketimines. Cross-couplings between various ketimine and isocyanate substrates have been evaluated, leading to good yields of the desired products. Additionally, a metal-free catalytic system and the successful synthesis of a benzodiazepine-2-one analogue indicate the significant application potential of the developed synthetic method.
