Novel Sulfonylurea Derivatives as Potential Antimicrobial Agents: Chemical Synthesis, Biological Evaluation, and Computational Study

Fan-Fei Meng et al.

Summary: MRSA is a global health threat and new antibacterial agents are urgently needed. In this study, 21 novel sulfonylurea derivatives were designed and synthesized, and nine compounds showed inhibitory activities against MRSA. Compound 9i and 9q exhibited the lowest minimum inhibitory concentrations against MRSA, surpassing the positive controls vancomycin and methicillin. This is the first time that sulfonylurea derivatives have been identified as promising inhibitors against different MRSA clinical isolates. Additionally, all the synthesized compounds showed minimal inhibitory concentrations greater than 100μg/mL against Candida albicans.

X-Ray Crystallography, Spectral Analysis, DFT Studies, and Molecular Docking of (C9H15N3)[CdCl4] Hybrid Material against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

Afef Gannouni et al.

Summary: A one dimensional polymer complex (C9H15N3)[CdCl4] was synthesized and characterized using various techniques including X-ray crystallography, FT-IR vibrational, and thermal analysis, UV-Visible and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopic investigations. The crystal structure belongs to the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4. The molecular geometry data and density functional theory calculations were compared. IR and Raman spectra were obtained to study the vibrational modes of the compound. Solid-state NMR and UV-visible characterization were conducted. HOMO-LUMO calculations were used to determine the energy gap. PL tests showed two peaks at 400 and 423 nm. Hirshfeld surface analysis and molecular docking experiments were performed to study weak molecular interactions and binding affinities. Thermo-differential analysis and thermogravimetric analysis were used to analyze the thermal degradation of the complex.

Intermolecular interactions of cytosine DNA nucleoside base with Gallic acid and its Methylgallate and Ethylgallate derivatives

Diana O. O. Odey et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between gallic acid and its derivatives (methylgallic acid and ethylgallic acid) with cytosine, the most reactive part of DNA. The results showed that methylgallate had the highest interaction energy and strongest H-bond interaction with cytosine, making it suitable for drug design. Ethylgallic acid showed weak interaction with cytosine, and both derivatives have great potential for drug design. These findings are important for the development of phytomedicines with antioxidant properties.
